(ISG) An Assassin In Narvir
« on: August 01, 2015, 07:56:32 am »

Your name is Kendrik. You are an agent of Prince Ector of Marir, the greatest city in Kethir.

Or you were, until Prince Aldun of Narvir slew Ector on the banks of the River Varn. Ector should have been given the option to surrender and be ransomed back to his family, but the treacherous Prince of Narvir ran him through.

Tonight you are in Narvir to avenge the death of your liege. From a small room in a tenement on the edge of the city, you have been planning tonight's assassination.

Success will not only avenge Ector's death, but it will also disrupt Narvir's politics and make you a very rich man. Prince Aldun is due to be wed in the morning to a maid half his age - the marriage will strengthen Narvir's political ties with a noble family from Kaelwyn. Killing Ector will show the foreigners the weakness beneath Narvir's thin veneer.

A storm is breaking on the horizon. Yesterday you paid to prepare passage on a ship along the coast to Sangir, an escape route. No one will sail from Narvir in this storm, however, so those coins were probably wasted. You will have to come up with another escape plan after Aldun is dead.

Things to bear in mind:
Prince Aldun is celebrating his upcoming marriage in the clifftop castle on the far side of the city
There is a curfew, and all law after dusk is martial
A storm is coming, it will break soon
There will likely be feasting and merrymaking in the castle this evening, so there will be guests in the castle dormitories and bedchambers
Getting into the castle will be tricky - you will probably have to do some climbing, you have a rope and hook to help

You have a selection of weapons to choose from. You can take one, some, or all of them. Infiltrating the castle unarmed would be madness, but carrying an arsenal will slow you down and make more noise than you care to consider on such a stealthy endeavour.

Throwing knives - hard to use and unlikely to kill anyone, but they can still be useful
Maririan dagger - an old favourite, small but easy to conceal
Rontollan scramr - it cuts and thrusts, bigger than the dagger and has a reassuring weight behind it
Old shortsword - a soldier's weapon, kept in a scabbard and difficult to hide

A draft carries the smell of the sea through the room. What will you take?

Maririan dagger and throwing knives.  We want to be as unobtrusive as possible.

All fanfics are heresy, each and every one, especially the shipping ones. Those are by far the worst.

The dagger and two throwing knives are concealed at your waist, the third throwing knife in your boot.

Thunder peals in the distance. Is there anything else before you leave? You barred the door so coming and going has to be done through this window - your rope and hook will let you return.

If you are badly injured and can't climb then you'll have to find somewhere else to hide while you recover.

A game that gets to business without all the obligatory character creation nonsense? I approve.

Is your face well-known in the area? Might want to not wear a conspicuous hood if not. Neither do you probably need a cloak that's gonna get caught on things. Not like you'll be getting cold, after all.

Got anything you could use to set a fire, though? There's no diversion like fire, you know.

Aie, a cloak that goes around yer neck is just begging to have you hang yourself when running from the guards.  Lose the cloak, get a mask if you really must... or a normal hat.

It's raining or snowing, or soon to be, unless the storm that is breaking on the horizon is a rather unusual one. Aren't cloaks and hoods a thing that most people wear in the rain and snow?
Keep it, but be ready to ditch it if you have to run.

+1 to fire starter if plausible, though.

A cloak can be quite versatile, and they're good for hiding things and breaking up a person's silhouette. You can always wrap it around your torso rather than have it trailing while you run and climb. That, or leave it behind and hope you're back here before you get completely drenched.

A shutter bangs in the street. The wind is picking up speed.

As for starting a fire, you have flint and steel but any tinder out in the open is likely to get wet in the coming storm. Still, you might be able to find some lantern oil on the way.

Get lantern oil, preferably. And wrap the cloak around your torso before leaving.
