Crossbows Thread
« on: July 29, 2015, 04:25:59 pm »

Anybody else here into crossbow building? This is my second Crossbow, figured I might try to get some people into the hobby.

-The tiller (Stock) is softwood and was finished with canola oil cured with a heat gun
-The tickler is a barbecue chicken skewer cut with a hacksaw and bent by hand with a vice.
-The mechanism was lubricated with thick gear-lubricant
-The prod and lock-plates are PVC
-The Prod should be 100 Lbs. draw give or take 15 Lbs.

This is a weapon and not a toy, any basic firearm rules apply with crossbows (Don't point at things that yell ouch! when you shoot at them).

That's a nice looking crossbow.
I didn't know it was possible to make them out of PVC.

I can't say that I'm ''into'' crossbow building, but as part of some part-time work I did at a museum, I got to use a replica of a steelspanned 1400-ish munitions-grade crossbow.
They're immensely powerful. I really didn't expect that from a weapon that, in the end, is powered by human muscles. This was only a hand drawn one too, as I understand it, the ones drawn with goatfoots or german-winches can be a lot more powerful.

I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one! They're pretty nasty weapons.

This shit is illegal where I live, you're convincing me to be a criminal. D:

Kot finishes his morning routine in the same way he always does, by burning a scale replica of Saint Basil's Cathedral on the windowsill.

I made a shitty little crossbow out of a log with a hole in it and an apple tree branch that nonetheless flung some sticks around when i was a kid. I was so proud of myself.

Then my brother got ahold of it, and it was no more. Such is life with siblings. I've never bothered making anything of the sort since, as its a lost cause. I might now though. Stimpy can go wreck the nice expensive bow he just bought instead of mine.

Also, you can make anything out of PVC if you set your mind to it. Shit is like duct tapes one true love in redneck projects.
