I want to share a story with you, a story of one helluva guy that so happened to end up with us all the way from Sicily, Italy. I've met some characters in the game industry but this guy takes the cake.

Did you know they have gangs in Sicily, stealing bikes and only giving them back after the owner pays a ransom? Apparently everyone knows who stole the bike, except the police won't do anything about it. They don't want to get shot.

That's what Giuseppe told me, a month or two after he took his own computer with him from Sicily and moved to Finland on a limb, on a hope that he could build a better future here. In Sicily it's impossible. It's only good for vacations he says.

I got his e-mail asking me if we had work for him, he is an aspiring graphic artist and he would very much like to join a game company here in Turku, Finland. With 3 months to live for our company I had to tell him we didn't have any possibilities to pay him a salary, but that he would be welcome to join us as an intern. To be honest, I was a bit surprised he was ready to help us without pay. My amazement took another level when he told us he has his own computer with him, and he can place it in our office! Good thing too, because we didn't have a computer for him at the time.

He has worked all summer two jobs, one paid at an italian restaurant and one unpaid with us, with his own computer that he has in our office! If that doesn't prove this guy really wants to work in the gaming industry I don't know what does. I'm very glad to have met him and his help has been very valuable to us, here are some of his drawings so far:

This one is an example custom commander, made from a picture sent to us from a real person. Actually this is my first friend I ever had in my life, at the age of 7. It will be a pledge choice in the upcoming Kickstarter!

One of the selectable commanders in the beginning. All commanders have their own set of attributes and bonuses.

The new Trolgar commander. A little bit of a style change, but we like him a lot! Looking fierce and well, troll-like.

The commander of one of the wanderer races. “Wanderer” is a wide category, there are many different wanderer races in the Battlestation universe. They all have in common the fact that they have lost their home planet due to unfortunate circumstances, now they are forced to live on ships. Design your own in the upcoming Kickstarter, the commander, fleet, battle tactics and everything!

All is set! Whoah, it was a little tight with the new update for Battlestation: Harbinger making it to the App Store or not but now it is there! This is fantastic because it pleases us very much that you will be playing the newest version of the game. Please do remember that your comments on the game balance and other game related things will be valuable to us and we will try to do our best to update the game. But playing it myself I have been very much surprised often and that is a wonderful thing!

Some more characters from Humanity's Last Hope:

A pilot ready for action!

Engineer reporting for duty.

A scientist android

And a battle android.

Only 5 days to go! August 13th is close by. That's when we launch Battlestation: Harbinger and the Kickstarter for Battlestation: Humanity's Last Hope. Stay tuned commanders!

First impressions after playing for about 15 minutes;

- Nice tutorial, seems to highlight everything you need to know
- Graphics are pretty cool and game seems to perform well on iPhone 5s
- Lots of unlockables!
- Pretty decent customisation of ship layout, not sure if there's enough difference between all the weapons/equipment
- Battle seems a bit monotonous, there's not much to do except wait for either ship to die. Positioning might be important eventually but at first, both the enemy and you are so slow that there's not much to do there.

So far I'm not sure whether it's going to be a hit or a miss for me, but at least I'm looking forward to trying this game some more :)

Hey i think i remember playing a primitive freemium version of this game on my android phone.

I'm not into mobile gaming so i didn't pay a cent but it was nice. if only the only right way of playing the game wasn't spamming fighters with shields and praying to god your researchers research lasers because gun hardpoints were borderline useless.

I have no interest in mobile gaming, but I hope to see a PC version of this succeed.

The release of the new Kickstarter for Battlestation: Humanity's Last Hope and the new game Battlestation: Harbinger couldn't have gone much better. Harbinger is featured on the front pages of both Google Play and Apple App Store!

This is exceptional and we are extremely proud of the game, it was a labor of love and we really put our hearts into it. You can watch a great let's play above, it shows what kind of sticky situations you might get yourself into as the commander of one of the human Battleships. It is one of the best videos we have seen of one of our games yet, great commentary!

Hmm, surprised nobody got this out of the way yet.  I've never done one of these, so I guess I'll take a crack at it:

Ahem! I see you only registered 10 days ago, and the Bay 12 community don't take kindly to your type... meaning devs with new games, just up and registering only to promote their new game... round here.

So uh... since you already did that...  uh... something!  Yeah!

At the very least, keep responding to questions here so it doesn't look like you just registered an account to throw up an ad for your game and never looked back.

With that out of the way, this game looks somewhat interesting.  Any idea when we might see a playable demo?

Man, you sure found a way to put me in place in the best way possible. This cracked me up. I am guilty as charged, and I will accept whatever faith the jury will cast upon me. I will hang in front of the townspeople, from my little toe upside down in shame! But if you so find it in you, I ask that you give this old man a chance. I might just be alright. I will not let you down, I will contribute to this fine community! I will give life advice to the young ones and I will praise every fine game I see here.

Well then! The second game Battlestation: Harbinger is a multi-platform game and we will release it for Android and iOS devices August 13th. I just found out it has been greenlit on Steam 6 hours ago, so that is fantastic news!  We will have to shape a new user interface for PC but once that is done we will release it on Steam.

On to the first mentioned game in my post, Battlestation: Humanity's Last Hope. This one we aim to release in Q4 of 2016, but surely we can arrange testing before that! I think this community right here would be fantastic for it. Players with a lot of wisdom I sense here, a lot of good ideas possible to come. Yes!

rad response. Ignore all of that opinion really, its not a policy in any way and i am not sure why people keep repeating it.

Battlestation: First Contact was far too easy on the free version, but I'll probably buy Battlestation: Harbinger tomorrow, to see how the engine works on a more complex game. The LP looked quite interesting.

It'll be good to see how it goes on a tiny little phone screen too. There is more than one sector isn't there?

Good luck on the Kickstarter, anyway!

I played it and i love the sort of *agressive tower defense (tower agressive?)* type of gameplay, i loved creeper world series and stuff like that so it def touched me. Cannot wait for the full game with all the feature advertised... boarding and stuff? count me in. I wish there would be a endless mode where you can jump to a new galaxy (map thingy you generate for your playtrough) But everytime you jump its harder and harder untill there is so many frigging ennemy you cannot win.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Yeah, I loved the basic concept of it in Battlestation: First Contact, but I stumbled onto the "winning" combo of lots of auto-launch fighters and some battleship reinforcements in my first playthrough and beat it on easy, very easily.

I then min/maxed that combo and beat it on normal. Even captured an enemy carrier both times, for even more fighters.

I then de-installed it. But don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing it, and I doubt that combo will work as well in Harbinger. Or in Humanity's Last Hope.

I hope they "borrow" a few concepts from another free mobile game, Superior Tactics RTS. There were a few other weapon types (mines, varying missile types) that would go quite well in a Battlestation game, even though STRTS is a side-on view. Even "instant skirmish" is a nice thing to have (beat that game in 1 1/2 days as well, so it's not just a Battlestation thing. My brain just seems to work well on games like this. I loved Stardrive too, in all it's broken glory).

You have to make lots of options and lots of rocks, scissors and papers, with none of them being uber, otherwise real-time space battle games are too easy to "break". They're incredibly hard to balance well.
