So that is how the magnetism is controlled! Yes, a brilliant mechanism...Ah, these notes are useless now! But this is much more useful than I thought it was! Think of all the potential uses, even if we could just farm this off of him...Oh, did you say something Hector? No, this is much more barbaric...And it hardens too! I could add this to armor, if we use enough of it we could achieve lift off even on normal planets...*He proceeds to ignore the poor Human Girl*
Nick proceeds to jump up from his sketches, and begins rubbing the creature's wings with his gloved hands. He starts feeling the pulse, attempting to discover how the wings work on a biological level, without getting himself cut.
"Greetings. This is a standard human greeting, nothing odd. Do you have any shedding I can borrow? How about some of that dust?"
He seems a bit off put by your claiming it is a standard human greeting, where as none of the other humans seem to be greeting him that way.
"Well, we could harvest some for you if you like. They form naturally in the upper atmosphere, it is a rite of passage for my people to fly high enough to harvest them after which we rarely touch the ground once more. I'd gladly gift you some of mine but it would return to me uncontrollably, it has been a part of me for many hundreds of cycles." he pauses for a moment to twist his head to look at you as you walk to his other wing.
"As for shedding, I am guessing you mean my exo-skeleton? Yes we molt on a number of occasions, I am wearing the molt of a larger of us that was specially treated to serve me at this height as he was of the lineage that survives even in extreme cold."1d10=8, target number is 5 (int)+2 applicable skill +2 willing specimen=9. You can not feel any pulse but you can see pockets of liquid shooting up and down channels inside his relatively clear wings, it seems that in place of muscles he has a pneumatic body system that functions for both movement and circulatory. As well the humming appears to be moving the crystals around the surface of his body, which it in turn is caused by the sawing of millions of tiny hairs inside what would appear to be his mouth, though a secondary opening below it would more likely be his actual mouth.
"..." Resun switches on his radio, "Hey Mac, you got some time? I wanted to give you a quick check up and see if you need any repairs." He watched Nick with concern plastered all over his face before getting out of his seat and walking to his workshop.
Mac responds over the audio,
"Ye ain't touching my circuitry you bloody robophile."
