Demonic Possession
Sometimes, court is even closer to hell than one might think.

~

A few days ago, the one who had summoned you, died. You felt what little control he had over you weakening to nothing.
While his methods were never enough to make you his slave, nor him your master, he did succeed in imprisoning you.

It was a fortnight later, that you first noticed someone, clearly of his blood, entering the secret quarters.
Since then, his firstborn seems to have made a habit of occasionally visiting there, rummaging around, erasing pentagrams, burning scrolls and tomes.
Not noticing the many curses they already have placed unto themself by doing so.

Still, the greatest curse; is yet to come.
Today, they finally pulled a certain book on the shelf, the triggered mechanism revealing something new to them.
Entering the concealed room, they look about it in pained disgust... and finally dare to enter the circle drawn from their sires blood.

The moment they grab the ruby in the centre, is the moment you strike.
Devoid of charms and magical training as they are, they fail to put up any mention-worthy resistance.

Congratulations, creature of the brimstone planes! The successors body, their mind, their position - all are henceforth yours.

~

Tell us, what is your infernal name:

Tell us, what type of demon are you:

Corrupter:
Demons of this type, grow in might by the moral decay that they cause.
Their powers include curses of allurement, persuasion, and infernal magick.
Even when mimicking human behaviour, their true, scheming nature, makes them untrustworthy.

Devourer:
Demons of this type, grow in might by the consumption of mortal souls.
Their powers include strengthening their host, shape-shifting, and infernal magick.
Even when mimicking human behaviour, their true, warlike nature, often finds them enraged.

Terror:
Demons of this type, grow in might by the fabrication of negative emotions.
Their powers include curses of illusion, intimidation, and infernal magick.
Even when mimicking human behaviour, their true, uncaring nature, makes them uncharismatic.

Why, yes. It is exactly what you think it is.
While we already had a slew of good, kind-hearted rulers, gods and similar on these forums, this time, things are a tad different.

I'm sorta wondering why Terrors are uncharismatic. Some of the most charismatic people are psychopaths and sociopaths. Not to mention in order to instill negative emotions, you need to be charismatic.

Terror is the easiest to power.
All demons face their own difficulties, and thus are somewhat balanced.

Just let me add that "Terror" was changed after some deliberation, because the original name; "Torturer", would paint the way for especially unsavory actions.
Having said as much, the negative emotions need to be rather deep, that we can feed on them.

For one, see above. Just being an asshat, won't do us much good.

On the other hand, terrors are so far removed from human thoughts and feelings, they are not really capable of displaying them. Or rather, while they try to do so, and mostly get it right, they occasionaly fail. The people they frequent with, will sooner or later "get wind" of that. Thus, uncharismatic.

They can't feed if they can't emphasize. You can't instill the feelings if you don't know how people tick.
A metaphysical entity, that feeds on a metaphysical source of nourishment, can't what now? ;p

Really, it is the same way our stomachs work. We may know to eat if we get an appetite, chew it, and we are done. The rest, is handled by our body, and we can't really influence it, can we? It is similiar with the demons. They may also understand the "science" or workings behind it, but knowing that the stomach uses gastric juices, does not give you any real control over it either. Back to square one.

Ah, yes. While your full name can not be truly felt by lesser beings, a diminished part of it can be voiced as words.
Thus, you are Akn'zqrlyt , a Devourer of the prideful demon race. Finally let loose on this plane, you are sure to have a taste of the different souls that inhabit it.

For now though, you need to prepare.

~

A slew of information, memories and alien feelings flood over you, as you slowly adjust to your new host.
It is with quite some appreciation that you observe the reversal of roles, his soul now silenced and imprisoned within the far greater confines of your mind.
Considering the former lords transgressions against yourself, it is very fitting indeed.

Disregarding the less important facets of the mortal you now inhibit, there are some things worth note and remembering.

Name and Gender of the Successor:

Special Trait of the Successor:

Trusted: Your host has kept his vassals and courtiers close
Beloved: Your host enjoys a good standing among the commoners
Popular: Your host is a welcome guest in noble circles
Faithful: Your host is in good standing with the church
Wo/Man of the Sword: Your host is known for their combat prowess
Practitioner: Your host is known for their study of magic
Dashing / Beauty: Your host is blessed with a most attractive look

It takes you a few minutes to gain full access to your new body, and even longer to sift through, and remember the details you will need for now.

In the process, your shaky hands pick up the smooth ruby which formed the base of your former prison, and shatter it on the floor.
Doing so, grants you back a trickle of your former power. As it is, you may hold out for a week, before your prisoner would be able to try for control of his body.

~

Speaking of power, your thoughts also went over your secondary possession, the recently inherited lands of your host.
Most of it, are pastures and fields, but there are two things that piqued your interest.

State of your Lands:
Pick two

Borderland: The province shares borders with an enemy state, and is highly militarized
Ore Veins: The province is home to a few mines, and associated industries
Seaside Port: The provinces capital is stationed at the shore, with bustling trade
Hunting Grounds: The province is rich in game, serving as income and noble entertainment
Traditional Seat: The province has been in this families care for generations
Pagan Faith: The province has their own religion, eschewing the central church
Magic Academy: The province schools mages - mighty combatants, and political bargain chips
Knightly Order: The province stipends a group of knights - lesser nobles turned warrior
Hidden Coven: The province is home to a heretic group of dark warlocks & witches

The different choices are meant to be a bit vague. While they do give a nice bonus, they are also meant to set the mood and world a bit.
In that sense, feel free to discuss them. Next update will be tomorrow.

Borderlands and Hidden Coven.

Also i'm going to assume we only pick one feature which I will say should be Popular.

The Hidden Coven will make a great place for us to find followers...that we eat and no one remembers. Plus we can even send them across the border to kidnap enemy agents to hand the crown for favors/gold. Popular because we could use our connections to take over the Kingdom via good deals.

It seems my host is a lord of the name Vanderson, he is a practitioner of magic and seems to be in good standing in the local mages guild, which is named "Boatmurderd" of all things! His lands also hold a coven of illegal magic, what fun it will be to use their own magic against them!
