Hippo Recoilless Rifle
A thorough redesign on the Rhino, this time we finally should exploit the use of exhaust gases to reduce recoil to a Moskurgan-tolerable level. The design called for HE and APSH rounds. Sufficiently advanced optical sights are designed to mainly provide a means of drop compensation.

+1 to this.

I also call for a revision of our vehicles to have slat armour. If we can spend a revision action to counter their design action, we come out ahead.

how improbable would it be for us to make recoilless naval guns for casual desert use?

A fair point. I wanted to put it forward as something not to forget though.

PPE: My post was not arguing for NBC agents, in fact against.
I basically argue against NBC agents. At least it is not in the spirit of this game.

It seems that we are torn between AT Recoilless Rifles or Sniper rifles. Choices anyone?

Hippo Recoilless Rifle
A thorough redesign on the Rhino, this time we finally should exploit the use of exhaust gases to reduce recoil to a Moskurgan-tolerable level. The design called for a 2.2 in caliber, and capable of firing HE and APSH rounds. Sufficiently advanced optical sights are designed to mainly provide a means of drop compensation, with graduation for both HE and APSH ballistics.
What about a soviet range finder style reticle?

For Sensei: I think the only design that has any votes is the Hippo Recoilless Rifle. Might want to wait longer for people to weigh in, 'tis up to you.

Revision-wise: It's Slat armour to counter RPGs or fixing the officer's uniform so they stop getting priority shot.

Expensive is less suited for sale to Communist China for 3 turns of +1 ore.

Easy.

Minor clarification: The Hippo comes with standard fare cheap iron sights, though its designed for use of an optical sight.

Or it could be one blueprint with interchangeable components of iron-sights and scopes.

Its not even an exploit. Its not a TOW rocket or Stinger which is ineffective without the computer. Its first and foremost a perforated tube.

Modular design is best design.

I vote for Hippo with an optional optical sight

Revision idea:

MK-477
Revise 20% shorter, 20% narrower and 20% lower version of MK-47. Also, create 20% narrower (0.24 inches) and 20% shorter bullet for it. If time left try to improve egronomics of the rifle.

Reasoning: Such rifle will have 0.8^3 = 51.2% of weight of MK-47s  weight, giving us a ~8 pound assault rifle. It is weight of AK-47. Downscaling is rather trivial engeineering task and we have a high chance of success.

We have a plethora of smallarms at the moment, so I feel slat armour is more pressing.

Getting even more ahead of them in small arms will prevent them from catching up easily. Also, we have good long range and short range solutions, but no good medium range weapon.

They are on roughly even footing on tanks right now, the new RR should tip it in our favour. The lighter gun and bolt should help negate the issue we had with the original.

I'm still advocating IR for tanks. Night attacks would be crazy effective if you could bring the tanks along too.
