haha, holy shit

basically a stunt plane with guns

that's hella moskurg, but there's only this much you can do with wood (our earlier wooden monoplane had stability problems at top speed) so let me double up on your idea

BUTTERFLY
small, nimble biplane made out of aluminum tubes and fiberglass cloth fit with a supercharged v8 engine in a pusher configuration
fitted with a modular weapons mount in front, for usage with hippo, stallion and (in the future) rocket systems
optimized for low-altitude flight and maneuverability

Why are we still on biplanes? Speed is how you beat guns.
More maneuverability.

Maneuvrability and payload. Biplane of same weight can carry more than a monoplane. And they handle holes in wings better. And manuevrability

Disadvantage of biplane is higher drag and that equals to lower speed. It is more important when you achieve WW2 levels of speed then with current ones but still.

My fighter is not meant to stay a viable fighter for long, it is made for low attitude manoeuvring to deal with diving bombers and be able to strafe even in mountains and towns. Actually, me preferred  course of action is

1) Design mosquito this turn
2) Knowing that enemy will try to regain air superiority - Design high attitude fast fighter, then we will have more cheap low attitude fighter-bomber and more expensive specialized high attitude fighter. And high attitude fighter will be better because of experience gained this turn.

I want some more experience in building aircrafts before designing fighter that will serve us for many years.
If mosquito will get voted this turn, I will vote for Yellowjacket  next turn. Those designs will work best together and we have chance to get one point of resource soon.

Fair enough, consider my vote changed to Mosquito or YellowJacket.

There's one problem with that: They have air superiority, and we can't really launch bombers at all. Until we clear the skies (And we do still have a decent bomber biplane) we aren't getting a bomber anywhere near their units.

Perhaps in order to regain air superiority we just need some sort of new anti-aircraft gun.

Though the fact that they have flack and we don't doesn't help.

Invent the Thoros, a flack machine for shooting flack at aircraft. Fast but inaccurate. Uses steam to propel projectiles at incredible speeds, the projectiles being loaded by a pipe going into the barrel. Or something.

Not that it's too useful to them until they design a proper AA gun and/or carriage.

Edit: Urist, no. Let's try keeping the things we come up with relatively sane.

See, we're going to need something more... effective to use as an AA gun.

Make more of them, then. Make them cheap! So cheap that we can spam them!

Or probably not.

After looking up the video, watching it, and seeing the results...

It was pretty shit. Like, if it can't penetrate ballistics gel, then it probably won't penetrate metal. That is, unless you're planning something so far out from your ass to make it work well. :P

No, their planes are just better than ours. We're going to need new ones.
Problem is that should will do it in a straightforward manner then they will immediately react with a better fighter using ore and turbo engines advantage. We need to be creative and not go brute force route.

My aircraft achieves more than trying to win air superiority for one turn. One of reasons I want a low attitude biplane - when it will be outclassed by more modern aircrafts, then it will become our own PO-2

Quote
They have air superiority, and we can't really launch bombers at all.
Our bombers are obsolete shit, even if they will have no fighters at all,  bombing will be marginally effective against their flak shells and 20mm automatic guns.

And I repeat - they need one turn to counter our fighter and return to status quo or better. What this one turn of air superiority will give to us? Will it help to win mountains? No, because our bombers are shit. It will not help in jungles.

It may help us in desert\town, but again, my aircraft is designed to bring death to their infantry\motorbikes\open tank-destroyers\aluminium cans(maybe)\Tanks(only if we manage to attach hippos) on the streets of the town. Also, my aircraft can be actually useful in mountains.

I am trying many ambitious things in my design - universal mount, aircraft mounted hippo, cargo container with a parachute, float pontoon if those will succeed - great. If no, we still get a usable fighter and experience to get even better fighter

I vote for Mosquito if it isn't obvious and urge others to do the same. Final argument: Stunt plane with machineguns is cool.

Their flak shells requires the completely adjusting the gun to fire the shell. They aren't effective because of that. And the 20mm I'd hazard suffers from the same problem.

And trying to garner votes by saying something's cool isn't exactly a convincing wayy of actually saying your design is effective.
