Going to throw my +1 on the 80mm field gun design.

That + mortars and our nice MG should offer up a nice range of support. We'll probably have to beef up our CC capabilities next year though or risk getting trounced in the trenches/jungle.

Hence why we need to revise our magazines this year so we can produce SMGs next year.

Glory to Arstotzka.

The revised mags will probably also fix much of the pistol.

First submachine guns were only a thing at the end of WW1, though.

(Shush.)

(Would adding a helmet to our uniform count as a Revision or a Design?)

It will be very difficult to outpace the first-world countries' technology. I'm not going to limit you arbitrarily, though. You can certainly attempt it.

Adding a little armor (such as a helmet) could be done in the revision phase. You can basically assume you already have helmet technology.

I'll let you get back to arguing between field guns and magazines.

I think most (4 +1s) of us are in agreement about the field gun. I think our main discussion has shifted to what we need to revise this year. :)

We're not arguing between field guns and magazines. We're all for using the Design phase for field guns. We're discussing what we should do in the Revise phase - either magazines or trains.

80mm field gun it is!

AS-1912 Artillery: A field gun firing 80mm shells, loaded through a sliding bolt. The action is not dissimilar to a bolt action rifle, where the old casing is ejected when the bolt is opened. It is large enough (and its ammunition large enough) to be Expensive, and is drawn by horse on two big wheels. It can fire about 12 times a minute, or less often for more precise fire, such as to hit a specific trench or building. It has several kilometers of range.

You have gained the technology 80mm Shells, Artillery.

I suppose we'll want to move on to the magazines immediately, hm?

Your engineers perfect the manufacturing process for the magazine technology used in the Nosin-Magant rifles. This will make them cheap enough to give to every soldier. The pistols are still built on shoddy equipment, and will remain shoddy until they are revised or replaced (but making a new semiautomatic pistol will not be difficult at all).

Stop production of Nosin Singles. Produce Nosin-Magants for all general infantry. Produce AS-1912 Artillery. Produce Sawed-off Shotguns.

Glory to Arstotzka.

We cannot create sawoff shotguns (or other shotguns) without using dirty imperialist measurement tools.

We must use mighty 20mm cartages and show the dirty imperialist Arstotzka power.

Glory to Arstotzka.
