How do you feel about the use of guns in this setting?

We know how to make them and they're useful, mainline production.

They seem out of place and run rather counter to a fantasy setting, avoid them.

Get outta here, nerd, nobody finds guns that interesting.

Go ahead and have the NPCs make em, but not worth player input.

So, how does everyone feel about the amount of information I'm giving you? I had a mini-discussion on the subject earlier, but it didn't amount to much, and I didn't respond to it well.

Basically, you obviously need to be given more information about what's going on, since many actions end up being non-useful largely because I haven't told you everything you need to. On the other hand, I'd rather people didn't know what other groups were doing, since that would tend to affect at least OOC decisionmaking, I.E, in the situation just now, Murdoc and Elagn know that Chaotic and Fish are alive on the surface, and understand what's going on, despite having almost no IC information on the situation, and as such might have slightly different priorities than otherwise. My initial thought was simply to spoiler things to specific approximate groups, but I don't feel like that's super optimal.

Incidentally, if Fish would like a second Mood at some point, I'd be up for it. "Balance" for the moods has changed a great deal since Spark.

The construct's ended up being somewhat mediocre, and some upcoming moods might be extremely powerful. If you want a second Strange Mood, you can probably have one, or alternatively, alter Spark's workings somewhat.

I'm saving my mood until a more conveinient time. Also for when I actually come up with something.

You know, if I had the right mats, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to build a fission reactor, since the idea came up almost immediately upon discovering the neutron and I already know neutrons exist and all that.

With a mood you could probably even build a working fusion reactor without too many questions being asked.

Eh. Fusion reactor would be nice but a bit of a stretch, plus unless I suddenly become Reiuji Utsuho I'm probably going to need a fission reaction to start the thing up anyway.

The issue with fusion is input energy. It takes a very large amount of energy to fuse atoms together, and unless you can use most of the output, you lose power. The only way we've figured out to get a useful fusion reaction, AFAIK, is better known as a thermonuclear bomb, using a reasonably standard fission bomb to ignite a canister of fusionable material. There's also supposedly the possibility of "Cold fusion", but the one way we've figured out to do it still has negative efficiency, since the specific variety of radiation needed to cause it is hard to make or somesuch.

TL;DR, I'd be willing to accept magic-assisted cold fusion with the perquisite of a few moods, but you'd need magic available to do it.

Hence the line about needing a fission reactor for a fusion reactor to be useful anyway. Though, the mention of magic gives me an idea for a magically-assisted fusion reactor that wouldn't require much startup energy. How expensive is teleportation?

So far it's only occurred as a result of cosmic-level phenomena. That doesn't necessarily mean much, since I haven't actually thought about it much, but I think it's safe to say pretty expensive.

However, if Out East stops shenanigans-ing, there will be considerably more energy available, in nearly indefinite quantities.

Huh, scratch that particular plan for now, then. What if I held an atom in place with some sort of magitek rig and used another one to shoot a different atom at it? I feel like that sort of thing would still end up being more energy-efficient than current methods of jumpstarting fusion reactors (and less explodey.)

EDIT; I should probably apologize for how hugely rambling this is, my bad.

I think the current fusion reactor prototypes either use giant lasers from every direction to zap the stuff together, or use very strong magnetic fields to pinch it together until it fuses.

This sounds like an alteration upon the latter, which would work fine if you could get the field generator to do so with less energy than you can get out of the reaction.

I think a reasonably large part of getting a nuclear reactor of any kind working is how to harvest the energy output. AFAIK, the majority of fusion prototypes and all extant fission reactors use what amounts to a fancy steam engine by converting heat-energy from the reaction into heat in the coolant, which boils water, which makes high-pressure steam, which runs turbines, which run generators. A more efficient system for getting that energy to a usable form, or simply using better steam engines, which I believe Gwolfski is currently writing the book on, would make just about everything a lot more doable.

Current fission reactors are, for reference, apparently less efficient than current gasoline engines, at around 20%.

An expansion upon the whole using-magic-for-technology thing is that I very much am not using the standard magic-science incompatibility here. Magical effects might mess with scientific ones in a few cases, but [SCIENCEY-REDACTED] among other things can definitely mess with magic in turn. You can very much use one to help the other, or to hurt it.
