Any of the eyeballs within melee range? I don't think it would be entirely insane to assume my character is a Legendary Miner, since that's basically what he's been doing while everyone else was inventing increasingly complex magical systems.

I'm willing to accept that you're legendary at mining and one or two other things, if you like. You said you were a mechanic, Gwolf seems to be going for a municipal engineer, and I'd like somebody who isn't a GMPC to do advanced normal tech. {For a given value of advanced, nothing past the early 20th century.}

Probably something along the lines of Legendary Miner, Master Mechanic, at least competent Fighter/Dodger (cavern nasties), and novice in lots of things.

Still waiting on Fish to respond to his new shipment of rough gems, then I'll probably head to the main fortress exits and get some anti-zombie architecture set up. (Cutting off open paths, trying to funnel them over traps, that sort of thing. Normal DF stuff.)

You forget that some zombies can fly, and you also have corpses in other locations of the fort to contend with... Oh, and did i mention that he is bringing a somewhat trained Living army? I am fairly sure i did. During my first turn.
