Gareth waved a dismissive hand.

"Yes yes, I know, but I just wanted to frame it in terms that she would understand. After all, we live near the forest and need to go through it to get out of Sanctuary. And if it weren't for that forest, our city might not be safe, so."

"Well, don't worry! This spider doesn't bite!"
"Well, doesn't bite those this spider isn't fighting, anyway."
"But we're not, so all is well!"
"I dunno how we'd be a threat... there seem to be a lot more humans than monsters. Humans seem to be the ones attacking, as well. We Bael tend to stay in the forests."

"But if they are still going to aim for 'diplomacy', I doubt we will be doing any ambushes. We might be the ones getting ambushed."

"When you are fighting for what is right, there are few opportunities to be on the offensive."

: "...I see."

This was something to be noted. As sheltered as he was, it was inevitable that he would hear about raids on occasion. However, he wasn't fully grasping Gareth's side of the argument in light of the Bael's statements.

: "If I may interject... If the Bael is known to live in the forests... Then how does Sanctuary having a forest protect it from monsters?"

Gareth stared blankly at the younger boy for a second before raising an eyebrow.

"I know you've learned about the spell. Don't pretend you haven't."

"What spell?."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Oh, yeah, you can do shiny magic, can't you? Show me, show me! We Bael can't do magic... it's a shame. it looks fun."

"As tempting a perk as getting to know what the labyrinth is, I think I'm gonna pass, personally." Cyryl looked around the ship. "Now that you've got your ship back to yourself, what are your plans?"

"I might try ta get some more hands for me ship. Got nothin' but a skeleton crew now. After that? Pro'bly go back to me pirating ways after I reclaim my island. Not 'ere o' course, gonna keep pestering the Relians till they can get rid of me or stop their nonsense."

Eneas panicked a bit as eyes began to fall down upon him. Particularly that of that strange snake person who was a bit too invested in killing!

: "Well I-I... I can't remember any..."

*Click*

: "Ah... Right. The ward."

: "It relates to our founding. A few hundred years ago, Gustov Lui cast a mighty spell upon the woods to the north. It's power is simple; the ward turns aside any non-human away from the Sanctuary who attempts to enter via the woods. It's... It's how we have protected the border for this long."

He perked up at the mention of magic however. Eneas let out a hesitant smile.

"Y-y-yes! I can. Here... Let me show you."

The young mage smiled and snapped his fingers. A small spark of light erupted from his fingertips. He touched it to his right palm, then held his left hand opened palm against it. When he pulled away, little spark's of light were flickering from hand to hand, dancing between them.

: "I-I-it's called 'Nestor's Bridge'. A little trick my brother taught me."

"Ahhh." Larini smiled delightedly. "Oh, do another one!"

Eneas nodded happily.

: "R-right! Let's see... Now how did this next one go... Ah!"

He moved his hands slowly, tilting them until they were vertical from one another. Then, with his upper fingers, he began to 'twist' the bridge into the helix. Eneas smiled cautiously and released tiny sprits of light magic that travelled from hand to hand following the shape of the helix.

"T-there! Easy enough!"

"You have a fair point."

Pasco cleared his throat and grinned at Larini:
:"Now what I'm gonna do here is say that I have absolutely ze-ro problem with monsters. I've worked with a few a' ya before and some of ya are pretty kick-ass. Plus, I don't buy into the crap the crusader-y bunch feed to the ignorant masses *cough*_Gareth*cough*."

"I can do tricks too."

Saragosd waved her hand and a slither of dark magic shot out and formed into the shape of a snake which wrapped around her arm and looked at Eneas.
