Now two people were staring at her in an extended silence, making her feel rather nervous and put-upon.

"Er, well... He died saving young Peter from being crushed by the mast. I don't mean to sound callous, but maybe we should all be praying that he's the only one the storm takes."

Hanna was silent. She was no stranger to death. But death in battle was to be expected; this was different. Sudden and brutal. Nobody deserved this.

Eneas brought himself down to his knees slowly and leaned his head in prayer. The words felt hollow now.

Gareth was dead. But the dog-woman was right Peter could not be blamed. Captain Jack could perhaps take blame for forcing a boy to work on the deck and certainly Torves who had forced them to take this fool's journey into the gaping mouth of hell. But if that were true, Eneas would have to pick up his share. He was the one that had perspired to make this journey in the first place. He was the one who placed pressure upon the general to move him out of the country, even if that were not his intent. While it may had been Gareth's choice to die, Eneas held his part of it. He had his own share in the death of his friend.

He clasped his hands tightly like a vise, shaking them both from the pressure. This was it. Retribution. A Reckoning. Judgement for his decisions in these past few days. If it all ended now for him, so be it. But he prayed that the same fate might pass by the others on this ship. That they might live.

That was the only thing he could ask of Iris now.

"I don't know. Maybe. I hope not."

Valerie's tail gave a hopeful wag, but only one before dropping again.

The waves continued to rock the ship, growing increasingly more violent each time until it felt that the next would surely capsize the ship; however, they never did. Be it sheer luck of supply and human placement, the last power in the orb, or some form of divine protection, the ship did not capsize. Eventually, the waves began to subside yet no one dared venture above deck for fear the storm would suddenly start up again. Until, that is, the ship came to an abrupt stop accompanied by a loud crash; everything that wasn't bolted down was flung forward.

"Oi, what in tha hell was that?" Jack groaned from his new position on the floor. "Actually nevermind what happened. Yellow shirt, go up there and check it out." The anointed crew member groaned something to himself before making his way above deck. There was a momentary silence before he called down.

"We're beached, Captain! No idea where we are!"

If Jack was surprised he didn't show it. Without saying a word he began climbing the stairs, the passengers and rest of the crew eventually followed him up. The damage was better than expected but only on account of the expected damage being the complete destruction of the ship. The sails had torn and were now functionally useless, the hull had suffered damage from beaching and, of course, there was the matter with one of the topmasts and Gareth, who was still speared to the deck; it was an easy task to remove him with the crew present and he was placed in a casket. During the removal a pouch a gold was found and given to Eneas under the assumption it was Gareth's; there were seven gold coins inside.

Party gains 7 gold.

"Look," Jack addressed his passengers as the crew were gathering shovels. "It's all well 'n good that he gets 'is ceremony, but I'm not havin' me crew carry that casket into those woods so we can bury 'im 'till I know it's safe. 'Specially not when I'm gonna need all them ta help fix up me ship."

"What are you getting at?" Rydell asked coldly.

"Be quiet, I was gettin' there! Anyway, I want ya," he looked directly at Rydell, "and yer group ta take a quick peak into tha woods, check fer imminent danger an' all that. Don't have ta take forever, just watch out fer the obvious." Rydell made to speak up again but Jack quickly continued. "An' 'fore ya ask why I don't do it, I'll remind ya that it's me an' my crew who know 'ow ta fix me ship; our only way off this blasted place. Not ta mention that me ship needs guardin' an' someone's gotta be around ta keep these idiots in check. Though as a sign o' good will I'll give yeh one o' me crew. Oi, Lassie, come over here! Yer gonna explore with them fer a bit. Best o' luck! Gahahaha!" Before Rydell could respond, Jack walked himself back over to his crew, minus one Valerie Lebelle, and began barking orders at them.

Rydell growled.

"Well, it looks like we're stuck with reconnaissance whether we like it or not. Might as well start if we want to bury Gareth today."

Valerie walked over obediently when Jack called for her, hands folded in front of her.

"Of course, Captain! You can count on me!"

She saluted, tail wagging, and turned to Rydell.

"Hello! I've met some of your team already, but I haven't been introduced to most of them. I'm Valerie Lebelle!"

"I'm sorry about Gareth. I'll help you find a good place for him."

She dropped to all fours and shook slightly as she turned from humanoid to monster... although, given her Mauthe Doog form was extremely shaggy, floppy eared, and with a short tail that curled over her brown-furred back, she wasn't quite as intimidating looking as Isaac's more wolf-like form. It probably didn't help she was only about 3/4ths his size, either. She stopped to sniff all the people around her and fix their scents in mind, then jumped off the gangplank, walked a little ways onto the beach, and sat to wait for them to catch up.

Valerie to 9,4.

Andala sighed. Why nobody cared to wake her up during the mast accident was beyond her. Alas, nothing could be done. She smiled at the new doogie and then went off the ship, the sand shifting under her feet.

Eneas was quiet. They had lived it would seem. Somehow this seemed loose comfort.

He shuffled to 9,2; expecting that the Centaur would inevitably move.
