"OK! It's just through here."

Valerie led the group downstairs and through the main area to a room on the starboard side of the ship. Various utensils hung from the walls, and on the counter there were a pair of knives already laid out. Val retrieved a small net of fish from an adjoining room and laid a few on the counter to start on, the backs facing to the Doogs.

"OK, watch me. These are the gills, here. You want to cut into the fish here, down to the bone, at an angle."

She stood at an awkward angle so Peter could watch her as she worked.

"Then you cut into the fish here, just above the backbone, and meet your first cut. Make sure you don't hit any bones. Then you carefully cut from there down to the tail of the fish, careful not to cut any bones off into the meat. You can choke on those."

Valerie turned the fish so now the stomach was facing her instead of the back.

"Now you do the same thing this way, only you also want to avoid cutting into the stomach. When you cut it correctly, you should be able to peel the meat from the fish like opening a book."

The Doog demonstrated.

"You only want the meat, not the scales, so your last cut should be as close to the skin as you can make it without hitting it."

Valerie had long since gotten used to cleaning fish, and with the skill of years of practice managed to cut it with barely a centimeter of space between the meat and skin.

"And that's one side done! Then you just flip it over and do it again! Here, watch carefully."

Val went through the process a second time, taking it slow and doing her best to teach the child. Once she had the meat separated from the head and bones, she set it aside.

"So how did you two meet?"

Peter had one thing to say above everything else.

"It stinks in here!" He proceeded to hold his nose throughout the rest of the demonstration. Meanwhile, Isaac had made his own attempt at skinning a fish and, while it wasn't as Valerie's (a miscut here and there, nearly cut through a bone, etc...) he had completed his own.

"I saved him from a pair of Sanctuarian raiders and he's been following me since."

"Oh? It sounds like he adopted you!"

"I didn't know it worked like that!"

She gave Peter a friendly scratch on the head as she would a young Doog.

"Hmm..."

"I guess that means you don't have any parents, huh, Peter?"

"That wasn't the intention..." Isaac mumbled.

Peter looked to the side.

"Uh, yeah... Not really, no."

Valerie squatted to be on Peter's eye level again.

"That's rough, little guy. I know what it's like. Sanctuarians killed my parents when I was only about your age. Me and my twin sister had to raise our little brothers by ourselves, mostly. If it wasn't for the kindness of the people here in Pasive, well, I don't know if we would have made it."

"What I mean is that, if you want, you can stay with me, too. I heard we're not coming home for at least a year, but when we do the offer's on the table. If you don't want to go anywhere else."

Peter took a moment to think.

"I wanna stay with both of you... If that's okay? I mean, you're both so nice to me..." He turned to Isaac who turned to Valerie with a look between surprised and questioning on his face.

Valerie blinked.

"Uh... Um... Well, that is..."

It was an innocent child's statement, she decided. She could handle a platonic relationship with a guy she barely knew, and it was rude to extend the offer to one person and not the other. It wasn't like she was agreeing to anything more than taking care of a poor orphan like herself.

"Well, maybe it'll be fun to have roomies. My place isn't very big but you two could share the room that used to belong to my brothers."

Eneas woke up in the morning for a fresh bit of morning air. It was then rather quickly that he realized that morning air simply didn't agree with him whatsoever. The boat wobbled. His stomach wobbled.

The poor lad had protested any journey to be made by sea, but the General had his ways of being persuasive. The young made now cradled himself on the ships edge, holding on for dear life. This was going to be a long voyage. A long, long, loooong voyage.

With the kid-sized problem taken care of in a way, Aenbarr went to check on Eneas and nearly repeated his last question word for word.

"Anything wrong?"

Isaac was more than a bit surprised at Valerie's answer; though, it only culminated into a mere:

"Wait, what?" And then: "...Well if you don't have a problem with it then I suppose I can do that. Don't really have anywhere else I need to be."

"It'll be just like we're a family!"

Eneas refused to look at the horse man thing when he approached; he stood white knuckled and staring at the horizon.

: "My stomach is full of sin..."

He paused, put a finger up in the air and-

: "HRRRRRRRRRK!"

"Well I'm hardly going to let you freeload, Isaac! You look like a strong guy, you can probably find some job around town to help pay the bills."

She ruffled Peter's hair before something caught her attention to remark upon.

"Say, what do you mean, you don't have anywhere else you need to be? You don't have a home or anybody that would miss you?"

"This swaying motion is really bad." Aenbarr said sympathetically.

Monsters had a better constitution than humans so he wasn't that affected, though walking around in all fours with the sea making the floor shift under him wasn't that easy. He did, however, discreetly position his body in front of Eneas so the rest of the group wouldn't see him throwing up.

Eneas was quietly able to pull himself up.

"Heh, if you're providing room and board it's only fair that I do something to help out."

He sighed a little on the inside.

"Well I have a half-brother pretty high up in the Passan military and our mom and my dad live with him but I've never really been apart of that family. I ran away from home for some reason or another when I was a pup and have been wandering to continent since."
