"Yeah. Our matriarch teaches us, and we learn by doing. Our matriarch helps us at first, but the more we grow the more we have to fend for ourselves. It's the Old Ways, she says."

"Sounds about right. I met Bael in Belitram when I was younger - their parents traded silk for some of our smithy's goods - and they played rough."

"Yeah, Larini mentioned." Cyryl raised a mug to his mouth again after giving his two cents.

"The big boys and girls ended up being the only ones capable of playing with the Bael back then. I might have some scars from those days."

"Oh! I know, I'll show you!"
She hoiked up her dress so up to her kness were visible, and swung her slender legs onto the table.

"See how my left leg is paler slightly than my right one? That's where I lost one of my legs, and it corresponded to that bit." She wiggled her toe-talons at her companions. "It'll match colour next time I moult... it always takes a couple until they're back to the same."

Cyryl appeared extremely interested in the difference in hue between Larini's legs.

Aenbarr lifted an eyebrow, and seemed more interested in making sure people weren't looking strange their way.

"Larini, you should avoid that kind of scene." he said patiently. "Putting your legs on the table is not considered too polite. Or proper."

Cyryl took notice of what he was doing. "Uh, yes! Aenbarr is exactly right. You, uh, definitely should not, uh, do that." With a herculean effort, Cyryl tore his eyes away and focused intently on eating instead.

Sarasgosd wondered around a bit, without finding much to pique her interest, realizing she was hungry she went looking for Isaac who told her, and then she headed towards the mess hall.  As she walked in the spider had her legs on the table, Sarasgosd ignored it and got food.

Giving waitlisted people the ability to murder non-responsive players was a great idea. Need to do that more often.

Hanna, having made her purchase, feels a bit hungry. She heads to the mess hall and after getting her food, sits at the table with the others in the group and begins eating.

It was too late. The mess hall had gone silent; the soldiers were all staring in disbelief.

"Fine, fine." She withdrew her legs and placed them back down, seemingly not noticing the staring soldiers. "Well, this spider thought it was interesting, anyway."

"Don't worry; it was interesting, but putting your legs on the table isn't an accepted practice. Larini, what has made you leave the company of your matriarch? It seems you haven't been taught much about the world beyond your community." Aenbarr asked, glancing around to check the soldiers would get back to their business.

At the question, Larini's smile faded completely for the first time.

She was supposed to go to the other clan, but... this was fun. She was meeting new, strange people. Eating new food. She'd already disobeyed her matriarch in talking to these people, so what harm could a little more disobedience do?
"I was told to go to a different clan.  Apparently I was supposed to..."
She trailed off hesitantly before forcing her smile back.
"Eh, this spider is sure I don't remember, anyway. Nothing important. But yes, this spider wasn't told much about how you humans and monsters live. You 'don't follow the Old Ways' was pretty much it. Don't think this spider was ever meant to even really talk to one of you."

"Is that so?" Aenbarr noticed something was wrong and decided not to press the issue.

"Your community seems more reclusive than the average. At the very least, your matriarch sounds more reclusive and protective than any other Bael I've ever met or heard of before." he commented.

He then got closer to finish the explanation he had begun.

"And before I forget, showing off your legs is something tied to sensuality, which is why the soldiers began staring. That was the second problem with putting your legs on the table."
