You don't get that luxury in war- most of your opponents tend to be conscripts who know a pitchfork infinitely better than they'll ever know a sword or lance. Men and women on the field because their lord ordered them to be there. It's messy."

"...oh. That doesn't sound as fun at all."

"It really isn't."

Cyryl's expression brightened considerably. "But hey, it probably won't come to that. I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Cyryl Albertas Newell. Charmed."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Nice to meet you. So you're a human? Isn't it weird, not being able to transform?"

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Well, not to me. It's just not something humans do. I suppose it'd be like asking you if it was weird not being able to fly." Cyryl seemed to ignore that he hadn't gotten a name. "Mind if I ask what transforming is actually like?"

[GiglameshDespair]

"Well, when I was a little spiderling, we used to make silk kites and let the wind drag us about. So we kind of flew. " she stuck her tongue out playfully at him between her fangs before continuing. "Changing is like... well, I'm like this, but I'm also a spider, so I just have to not be this and be a spider, and I am. It's pretty quick. It's like... holding your breath, and when I let it out I'm a mighty spider instead."

"Sounds like you prefer your spider form. Or am I making assumptions?"

[GiglameshDespair]

"Being a spider is good for moving around or fighting. Don't know how you balance really well with only two legs. Eight is so much better." She reached up and tapped by her lower eye. "But it's easier to see things clearly in this form, and I have hands to hand stuff with. And I can't talk as a spider. So this form is convenient for a lot of things.

So what can you humans actually do? You can't transform. What can you, you know. Do. Your ability." She sounded curious, like she wanted to be let in on a secret.

"Well, what I do is stab ne'er-do-wells with my lance. I'm pretty good at it too- Feel free to ask anyone here." Cyryl seemed rather proud of himself. "But as a whole, what humans seem to do best is... Work. We just keep at whatever it is we do, and we put our blood, sweat and tears into it until we're dead or legends."

"I've been known to work up a sweat myself, from time to time."

[GiglameshDespair]

"So your metal stinger is called a lance? I'll have to give it a go! Never used a lance before. You just prod things with it, right?"

"I'm relatively sure it's more difficult than just poking..."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Hah! Yes, it is just a little more complicated than that. Really, it depends on who you're fighting. Especially if they're mounted. But for the most part you use your whole body, rather than just your arms."

"But really it's just poking someone with a metal stick, sure you have to know where to poke and how to not get poked but it's not like it's magic."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Maybe not. But it is a skill that must be trained and honed if you want to be any good. So in that respect, magic and lancework really aren't that different." Cyryl shrugged.

Out of the conversation and not interested in barging in, Aenbarr decided to talk to Lestat.

"How was yesterday? The situation seemed rougher your way, while I had to keep chasing enemies."
