"Really??" She reached up and gave his ears just one more rub.
"Really.""I'm part of the militia assigned to this part--you could help by tagging along with me and the others here, acting as security or just aiding us along the way just as you did before. I'd be happy to be with someone of a kind heart (pay included). Or help the townsfolk here learn to protect themselves; Meles may need more able hands, as I've a feeling we'll be reassigned soon given the recent commotion."
She smiled as she looked at the rest--everyone was alright (sans some of the invaders). Then a thought hit her.
"Though we could use the initiative now and find out where these ruffians came from. They're all well-equipped for a raiding party. Maybe they've a camp nearby?"
((use your mug tir :v))
"Unfortunately, that decision isn't mine to make. And if I remember correctly, I believe my captain said we were going to stick around here for a while as trainers and guards. If what you say is true, we probably won't see each other for quite some time, so I'll wish you safe travels now."As you chat amongst one another the citizens slowly file back into the square and return to their daily lives -some begin cleaning up the dead bodies as it is their job- more than used to the raids and their aftermath. Once it is clear peace has returned, however momentary it is, you head back to headquarters with your two prospective members. However once there you are informed by your commander's secretary that he is away, apparently called away to a meeting with the mayor to discuss the state of affairs in Meles and that he likely won't be back until tomorrow. Luckily, the potentials are allowed to stay the night in the barracks rather than being forced to room at the inn.
Chapter 1: Decision Point
The night passes quickly and soon enough morning arrives, prompting you and your guests awake. You go about your daily preparations and report to your commander for the daily briefing while your guests wait outside; however, the normally boisterous and relatively relaxed Commander Carne now wears a grim expression on his face and is pacing around the room. He continues pacing for about another minute before realizing that he has company.
"My apologies for not seeing you there, I have a lot on my mind." He sighs and shakes his head before continuing.
"Due to our recent performance in repelling Sanctuarian raids we're being reassigned to somewhere on the western coast near the Sanctuarian border. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it means we've been noticed for our skill, but at the same time it means we'll be in even more danger. Sanctuary has started sending large parties out past the forest lead by the High Inquisitor Lector Domini and his sons. The higher ups don't know why, but fear they are preparing an invasion force.""We're scheduled to leave today as soon as we're ready. Any questions? I'll be glad to answer any that you have." If only to delay our departure a small bit.
