Raise the dead in the cemetery and storm the village, heading to the orphanage to pick up our follower and killing everyone on the way.

Many games begin with us being subtle in our initial moves. Let's shake it up a bit.

If we have enough power not to turn our soul to mana or something, let's do this. We're barely stronger than a pile of clinking bones, note that.

I'd suggest we grab our little girl too. We must teach her the arts.

With a powerful motion and a silent spell, you wrench damned souls from their place in hell. The mud and soil tremble once more, and skeletons and ghouls and zombies rise from their graves. Your unholy army of fifty undead is ready to start their hateful war on life. Communing with the spirits along the way, you lead your corpses while the ghosts direct you.

You reach the first farm. You feel an intense desire to rend the living limb from limb, and you are doubtless your army feels the same. However, to your immense disappointment, you cannot sense their auras. They're dead. Their ghosts are horribly restless, which means they recently died, and were brutally murdered.

The same lack of life is found in the following farmhouses. Their restless, hateful souls seem to give you strength, however. You see a poster on fence. It reads: WANTED. Red Killer. There is a sketch of a man underneath a red hood, smiling maniacally. Wanted for the murder of fifty two people. Wanted for the torture of Madam Canter Hooch. Wanted for illicit and illegal practices. He is extremely dangerous.

A killer, it seems. That explains the lack of farm-folk. When you reach the town, you feel an immense aura of fear. You cackle gleefully. You stand on a hill directly overlooking the tiny town. You feel a great impatience, waiting to feast on the blood of the ignorant, ungrateful living. You can sense that the patrols are scouring the night, presumably on the lookout for their local murderer. They might make a stealthy attack more difficult. An outright attack might be difficult as well, seeing the unusually large number of armed militia.

I like this killer. I think he could be of use. Lets look for him. Or her.

Do we look dead? If so, we should hide in the shadows, searching for this Killer first.

We need to gain allies and power first before trying to ransack a village that we have no idea we can actually capture at our current status.

Have our army appear suddenly and at once, charging them into the militia.

The militia are currently on the lookout for a mundane serial killer; they are entirely unprepared for an undead invasion. If we're lucky, they'll break immediately and killing everyone will be very easy. If we're not, they'll be demoralised and we'll be fighting people not trained to fight against armies.

We must also remember that we are an actor in all this. Any thing that our army kills we can raise from the dead, possibly more easily considering they'd only been recently killed. The souls of those recently killed by the Red Killer gave us power through their hatred. Maybe the souls of those we kill will give us power through their fear.

As for what we should do with the Red Killer, I think if we murder him, we can anchor the souls who hate him to him and create some kind of ultra-powerful undead amalgamation/servant. Just a thought.

trying to ransack a village that we have no idea we can actually capture at our current status.
Capture? We're here in this village to murder everyone and get an army. We can capture a village later, for now let's just murder people so we can get back some power.

The living are searching for a murderer, not a horde of hateful undead. The surprise attack throws them off guard, and the pathetic militia breaks. The scent of fear you smelled earlier has multiplied tenfold. Townsfolk and guardsmen alike trample over each other, caring not for their fellows as they scramble for the town castle. Somewhere, amidst the chaos, you hear the echoing screams of a soul recently murdered...

You command with a gesture for your undead to kill and slaughter. They happily oblige. The skeletons, despite instilling great fear, are easily dispatched. This gives the living some slight hope. They put up a good fight, reducing a number of skeletons to dust. In fact, most of the living casualties are due to themselves pushing and trampling each other.

No matter... You sneak undetected, into the shadows, searching for the killer. An ally is what you need. An ally is what you'll get. Following the psychic screams of the recently deceased (quite difficult, as you have to filter out the aura of fear) and make your way slowly to a dark street. You sense only two living creatures here. The rest seem to have retreated already.

One of the living, thoroughly frightened, runs haphazardly down the cobble street. You sense the other lurking in the shadow, obviously enjoying the sense of terror like you do. The horrified woman finally breaks down, heavily bleeding. Another comes out of an alley, cleaver at the ready. You watch as the hooded figure dismembers the screaming woman. The murderer seems to have taken advantage of the chaos, choosing to kill openly now that everyone has run into the town castle.

After fifteen minutes of screaming, the woman finally stops. The hooded figure begins giggling maniacally. You step into the lamplight, revealing your rotting, skeletal body. The Red Killer stops laughing and begins sobbing hysterically. The red hood falls down, revealing long, blonde hair and the face of a young girl.

"Y-you finally came for me... You heard my prayers!" She looks down at her bloody hands and wipes it on a patch of white cloth on her cloak. You realize that her red cloak was once white. "F-forgive my appearance, my savior..."

+1 to all. Ask her name.

Raise more dead. Let's further demoralise them by having them fight their friends, family, and neighbours.

While everyone's distracted, go around the militia with the girl into the castle. Raise everyone the girl kills once inside.

EDIT: Get the girl to take off her cloak for now. It might help when we're in the castle.

Keep cloak. Wear slasher smile. Boast killcount. Have escape plan ready, if in case snipers.

"Your faith is unwavering, girl. Your bloodshed is art. Tell me," you say in a raspy voice, "your name..."

The girl looks uncomfortable. "Red Killer..."

"Surely none of the other children call you that," you say interrogatively.

"No, they don't talk to me at all... It's Madam Canter's fault! She hated me. None of the others wanted to get near me in case they got in trouble. I don't think they know my name..."

"What did your parents call you?"

She looks pained, as if struggling hard to remember it. "A-Angel, my savior. But no one's called me that in a long time." She looks on the verge of tears. "But call me by my real name, please, if you wish. Red Killer is who I am now..."

"It's time we saved this town, Killer." With another gesture, you stop the ghouls from feasting on the flesh of the fearful villagers, and direct them straight towards the town castle. "The pigs here are well-trained. They wait patiently at the slaughterhouse."

You and Red Killer make a beeline for the castle, located in the center of town, raising the dead along the way. Right outside the entrance, you stop. You feel a searing pain, and a blinding aura from inside the castle. You can't bear to even open your eyes near the castle. Your control over the damned is waning; you can't concentrate. Something or someone very powerful lies in wait in the castle.

"What's the matter, my god?" she says, moving to help you.
