Soldiers of Fortune IC - Mission 1: "San Cajetan"
« on: July 20, 2015, 05:28:51 pm »

SOF Regional Operating Center 46
Miami, Florida
Approximately 21:30 hours, local time.

"Alright, everybody's here."
The speaker, a man of vaguely Middle Eastern descent, grinned at the men and women occupying four of the other seats in the cramped boardroom. With jeans, hi-top sneakers, a faded brown leather jacket, and a keffiyeh around his neck, he looked rather out of place in Miami.
"Welcome to Soldiers of Fortune. My name is Mr. Steele. I'll be your SOF liaison for the duration of your time with this unit. Anything you need, talk to me. Since we're going to be spending quite a bit of time together, why don't we all introduce ourselves?"
The other four gazed on in silence.
"Hmm." A slight frown crossed Steele's face. "Well, I figured none of you would be eager to make friends. I've gone through your dossiers and  taken the liberty of condensing the information into our first briefing. Would somebody get the lights, please?" After a brief pause, Steele walked across the room and switched them off himself. He turned around and hit a switch on a projector facing the opposite wall. Judging from the absolutely dreadful quality of the images, the projector was older than everyone else in the room. A slightly fuzzy black-and-white image of a young man in a police uniform appeared on the wall.

Although the man in the room wearing the LAPD baseball cap looked a bit older and a whole lot meaner, it was clearly the same man. "John Boyd. Former doorbuster for the LAPD. Specializes in forced entry and CQB. Before he left the force for...ah, personal reasons, he had a remarkable service record. I think you'll all find him to be an excellent member of the team." Boyd scoffed at this. "Whatever." Steele pretended he hadn't heard Boyd and continued with his briefing. He hit a button on the projector and the image abruptly changed into that of an attractive young lady peering into the scope of a sniper rifle.

His tone shifted slightly, and he began to speak directly to one of the women occupying a seat in the room. "Adriana Slate. Three years with the CIA, one of which you spent as a designated marksman for the IDF in Palestine. Heard about you back when I was at the agency. Apparently you could knock the wings off of a fly at five hundred meters." He chuckled and pressed another button, putting on-screen an image of a man inside the cockpit of a fighter jet.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Hassan Halim Fakhr. Former Viper pilot with the EAF. Off the records, you were an ace. And, that brings us to Miss Hanton." The image shifted once again.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"First female member of the Army Rangers. Ten-year veteran. Stellar record for grace under fire. And, last, but not least, that brings us to this handsome devil." The image on the screen was one of Steele.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"I spent three years with the CIA in the Middle East and five with SOF. I specialize in linguistics and rifle marksmanship. Together, we'll comprise Multirole Strike Team Seven. The Renegades." Steele walked over to the light switch and flicked it back on. "Now, we don't have full access to SOF funding yet, but I have a friend who managed to get me what I needed from SOF's main armory. I've got specialized equipment and sidearms for each of you. Of course, we still have to finish this briefing. Which do you guys want to do first?"

"First things first, I suppose. Well then, let's begin."
Steele turns the lights off again, and displays a map on the ancient projector.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"This is Tropicana, a small island nation not far off the coast of South America. For the past forty years, it's been ruled by this man."

Steele hits a button and the slide changes to display an overweight, bearded Hispanic man wearing an elaborate military uniform with more medals pinned to the chest than any one person could legitimately earn in a lifetime.

"This is Generalissimo Fernando Rodrigo Vazquez. Don Fernando, as he insists his citizens call him. His father, Rodrigo, ruled over Tropicana before him, and was by all accounts a caring and generous leader, loved by the people. That is, of course, before the young Don Fernando declared himself presidente por vida and had his father executed on national television. In his younger years, Don Fernando was as crafty as he was ruthless. During the Cold War, he managed to convince both the Soviets and the United States to provide him with weapons and money in exchange for promises to rule the nation under their respective ideals. In 1989, he publicly gave both of them the finger and focused on keeping himself in power. Most of the nation's money goes towards military expenditures and luxuries for Don Fernando."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"We believe Fernando is developing some sort of advanced stealth aircraft, codenamed Pantera. Our client wants that aircraft intact, and Generalissimo Vazquez dead. Our two main objectives are to kill Vazquez and to somehow steal the Pantera. In addition, we'll recieve a payment bonus for any blueprints and research we bring back on the Pantera."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Our main opposition will be the Fuerza Seguridad Tropicana. The FST's been fighting drug smugglers and gun runners on the island since the mid-80's, so they're battle-hardened. Equipment is a mixed bag of American, Soviet, and South American weapons. SOF has a small intelligence element already in place on the island, callsign Wiretap. They're reporting that most of the fighting between the FST and the smugglers has been occuring in the jungles and the more isolated towns. They're also advising that we steer clear of the smugglers. The enemy of our enemy isn't always our friend."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"SOF's South American fleet is less than fifty miles outside our AO on another mission, but I've managed to wrangle us a flight of Intruders to back us up if things get hot. Along with that, we've been assigned an intelligence specialist, callsign "Pathfinder," to keep in touch with us via radio. She'll be providing support remotely. SOF is providing us with standard-issue equipment for this first mission, since we're a new unit. Each of you will get a rucksack, an M16A2, along with five thirty-round magazines and a hundred and fifty rounds of ammunition, plus five days' worth of field rations. Fortunately, I've got some special equipment for each of you, so you'll be alright even if you aren't familiar with the AR-15 weapons platform."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Insertion will take place via one of SOF's custom aircraft, a Learjet 85 with civilian markings. We'll land in the capital city of San Cajetan and make our way to the SOF safehouse in Selva Sur, a small town on the southern part of the island. From there, we can plan our next move."

"Any questions?"

"Not a clue. I only have what they sent me in the folder. I assume the SOF unit already in place should be able to give us some more info. Probably on one of the dozen or so airbases scattered around the island. I'll try to read up some more on the FST during the plane flight over. Not a clue as far as the Pantera's capabilities, but our client's willing to pay quite the hefty sum to get his hands on it. I'll see what I can find out after I give each of you your personal equipment."

The man wearing a black leather jacket, a large scarf of the same color and a decorated jet fighter's helmet also spoke up, his voice thick with a Middle-Eastern accent and sounding far more excited than Hanton. "Yes, more information on the Pantera would be appreciated." Though the helmet-scarf combo covered part of his face, it was easy to see he had bronze skin and a straight-cut nose. And he sounded far too interested in the plane for it to be only a professional's dedication.

"If we find two of them may we keep one? It is only polite, after all." He added after a moment of thought.

"Hey steve." You speak into the air.
>Yes?
"Could you guys also make a hamburger out of this arm when they cut it off? I wanted to eat it just for the sake of tasting it."
>That is horrible and disgusting. It will no doubt set you apart and create fear in your team mates. So of course.

The older man in the PD cap scans over the four others in the room, his eyes glazing over, and half listens to them talk. Ignoring the uninteresting information from Steele, he casually pulls out a small metal flask, taking a slug from it while the others talk, before putting the flask back. If nobody bothered him, he'd pull the brim of his hat over his face, clearly ignoring the others.

"Slight problem. Only one of us knows how to fly a plane, and flying it seems to be the only way to get it off the island as I see it right now. But if we can get it off the island, I think we can convince SOF to allow us to keep one, provided we give them blueprints."

[OOC Note: Jesus, dude, I cannot read what you're saying if it's in Dark Slate Gray. Maybe a color like red would be better.]

A few minutes later, he returns with five small cases in his hands.
He sets them down face-up in a row at the head of the table.
Each case is labeled with an initial and the last name of one of the team members.
"Alright, ladies first." Steele slides the case labeled "A. Slate" over to Adriana, who stares at it for a moment.

"Inside you will find a H&K USP Tactical handgun chambered in .45 ACP. Along with that, there is an SOF KYDEX shoulder rig custom-fitted to your measurements. The rig is more than just a holster, as it has pouches for three twelve-round magazines for you, all of which are pre-loaded. The last accessory for the weapon is an eight-inch Osprey 45 suppressor. Lastly, there's a new US passport filled out in your name."

"Next up is you, Miss Hanton."
Steele slides the case labeled "J. Hanton" over to Jesse.

"Ever seen Dirty Harry? Inside there, you'll find the Smith & Wesson Model 29 double-action revolver. There's a KYDEX rig for you, too, but it goes around your waist, rather than the shoulder. There's thirty-six .44 Magnum cartridges and a passport in there, as well. Nothing fancy, I'm afraid. Also, do be sure not to fire that next to anyone's head, unless you want to deafen them."

"Next up, Mr. Fakhr...Wait. How the hell can you see anything with that fucking helmet on? We're inside at night!"

Steele slides the case over.

"Inside there, you'll find an Egyptian Helwan pistol. It's a copy of the Beretta M1951 chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. There's also five eight-round magazines and forty rounds of nine-mil, plus a KYDEX holster of your own and an Egyptian passport. The Helwan's old, but it was in good condition when it came from the armory, and I cleaned it once myself to make sure."
