Pretty much. A first-gen wouldn't even get off the ground before a current-gen destroyed it, no matter how skilled the pilot.

Norway could have just made a model that didn't have those. Most countries had their own models, barring a few that just used the French ones.

It could have been a rush production so they got it done on time, and they couldn't think of a name.

Also, justification for everyone understanding each other: Within the time skip, humanity developed some earbuds that would automatically translate for the wearer. Unrealistic, but at least it's more than the translation convention.

Actually, I'm thinking of a more retrofitted 1st gen IS, explains how it looks old but performs well.

It's a powerful frame, just a bit lacking on the speed side.

Not to mention that a modified 1st gen managed to become the most powerful 4th gen (granted it had a special core and was a very late 1st gen).

Well, I guess the 6th generation is a bit lacking in some areas, and made more for flashiness (all the levitating bulls***) than performance.

4th to 5th was a big enough jump that absurdly skilled pilots in fourth and refitted third gens could only just keep up with a relatively average pilot in 5th gen, so that kind of implies that they get better, not just flashier.
