I recently got my own copy of that Getting Started With Dwarf Fortress fan guidebook a few days ago, and I just simply want to express my enthusiasm by saying how awesome of a collectible it is. There are still aspects from the main game that I've yet to learn (like pumping water) which the book explains, but even reading some of the sections that I already know is entertaining.

It's a fun book to bring along that reminds you how much fun the game is when you're out, and I'm sure it's still a fun book to own even for those who know every aspect of the game. I might actually start to buy more Dwarf Fortress related goods, for sure.

It's also fun to sit it next to the Getting Started with Minecraft book that we have at work, which is 11 pages.

*KATHUMP* Oh don't mind me guys, I'm just sitting my expansive encyclopedia of how to play this videogame on top of this other book. Oh you haven't heard of this game? Yeah, nah, you wouldn't have, it's really underground.

The clever pun is always lost on them.

Urgh, video game hipsters bother me.

OP, I thought you were talking about one of Bill O'Reily's books. I was preparing to mock and whatnot, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Haha, my bad, I changed the thread's title to be accurate and I actually had to look up who Bill O'Reily was.

The author updates the e-book, but it doesn't have the same novelty as the print version.

Yea, the author is or was a forumite right here, and they said they would be continuing updating the digital version

It's only a matter of time before he writes Killing Urist...

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

I made this in three minutes, but it was certainly three minutes well spent.

Maybe in the future we can have book covers feature LED displays to show the flashing dead Urist.

What the entire book needs to be is the development and history of DF and then a battlelog with Urist and a turkey gobbler.

two-frame book cover animation is already possible, using a thin bit of e-ink display. (Instead of it being "black and white" like a normal e-ink display, each "pixel" just needs to be the two colors it's flashing between. Thus the image and animation are hard-coded)

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".
