"It's not amber, though it's name does sound like amber. This is Amberite. It's an ancient form of mana that allowed poeple way back when to cast magic before the advent of mana, so yes, Vira, It's crystallized mana. However, in it's current state, it's highly toxic. If a magic user attempts to use it, it will kill them. A mundane human, however," Sen hands the Amberite to the male child, who squeezes the stone, causing it to radiate a cold mist. He lifts up his other hand and fires out a a rather impressive ice spear, "can cast magic as though he had latent talent. In the hands of the Layar, it would mean the end of all resistance to their conquering. Thankfully, Even in it's current form, a Layar can't use it. It's causes their minds to devolve to primal instinct and turns them into nothing but an overgrown lizard." Sen take the stone back from the child and places it back in the box, "Our planet is full of it and the layar know this. One of the first thing our governments did was forbade the exchange of Amberite to the Layar, at the request of Miss Ryan. Well played on her part."

[Poltifar]

"Fuuulll of it? How come we... never heard of it?"

[Akroma]

"Well, we certainly don't want the layar to get that stuff, but it's off even worse in the hands of humans. All this would do is make normal wars even deadlier."

Sokka can hear Sen's explanation thanks to Sepia, who has turned on a monitor and is letting Sokka watch it.

Sen continues on, "No you may not touch it. It's the only sample I have and it's down to one or two uses left. Amberite in it;s current form has around three or four uses and turns into worthless dust when spent. Humans are very ignorant when it comes to Amberite. The confuse it for normal gemstone and turn it into useless jewelry and decoration without knowing what it is." She then turns to Aisly, "Over long periods of time, any sentient creature can learn magic. The layar are still infants to it's use, hence why we only rarely see them using magic."

Hyoma speaks up this time, "The Layar react very differently to Amberite. I theorize that it's not just Layar, but all species who have roots to reptilians. It forces a primal devolution upon the layar, transforming them into a beast reminiscent of their ancestors."
