"Officer, may I suggest a compromise?  You can prosecute us after the fact, but right now, we want to get in and fix whatever the heck is wrong before the other shoe drops, and you want this thing resolved.  Neither of those will be accomplished if we stand here in some sort of weird standoff until whoever is in there has done whatever it is they set out to do and inevitably brought about something worse.  I am sure you wouldn't want that on your record, or your conscience, and neither would we.  Okay?"
