Do they kidnap- or otherwise take- naturally gifted children for training? That might show up in the backstory for my character if so.

Magic in this verse is hereditary, a mage has to have mage parents.

And even then, being GOOD at it is not a given, as Shinji Matou demonstrates.

Although, just to mix it up, as this is an AU, some Muggle families have mage children.

In which case, who were Shirou's parents?

Although I'll admit, I'm a bit rusty on my Nasuverse lore, so take what I just said with a pinch of salt or something.

It may be different, since he had the magical thing shoved into him as a child.

Are the wild cards a faction, or are they more freelancers? I'd assume the former, because else they'd be at a disadvantage in game, but just checking.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

A faction of freelancers who neither side wants on to get at Millennium.

I don't really think just having a magical sheath out into you can cause your soul to alter itself on a fundamental level...
But again, rusty on my Nasu lore. Could be talking out of my ass here.

So, if I understand this correctly, the computer would give the one to use it a wish? Could it basically be anything?

It turned Shirou's Origin into Sword, which is why magical healing for him involved sewing his wounds together with miniature swords.

So, if I understand this correctly, the computer would give the one to use it a wish? Could it basically be anything?
Yes. Even if the wish is to destroy the computer itself.

Endurance and Magic. Endurance also handles defense against everything.

-snip-
Try to use named Monsters if you're going to do that, like Euryale or the Erlkonig. I'd allow individuals of a species, but then people would make up ridiculous bullshit.
