Please no backtracking T.T. So much backtracking in normal forts, which is a natural consequence of having a central stairway.

And nah, it doesnt show up.  Just indicates the entrance more obviously, I suppose.  Finding the fort itself, well, note down the rough position of the fort when selecting reclaim,  and just walk in circles from there.

Not sure what you mean by backtracking -- do you mean long, dead-end hallways that require you to turn around and go back the way you came? As oppose to loops?

* Also, good loot - weapons, armor, jewelry and clothing.

Ah, so jewelry is actually useful in Adventure mode? I guess that makes sense, since it's an easily portable valuable. In fortress mode, it's all just "worthless junk", so I don't generally bother with it. My next fort, perhaps I will, just to leave some for adventurers.

BTW, thank you everyone who has responded to my request for ways to make a good archeaological-adventuring fort!

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

Yup, they're wearable.

As for backtracking - Bearskie mentions central staircases, so perhaps they're complaining about needing to go back down the hallway to get to another floor?   Sticking to roughly the same footprint on each Z-level and putting stairs around the edges might help.

One way might be to do a sort of "vertical zig-zag" approach

XXXXXXXXXXX
            (stairs)
XXXXXXXXXXX
(stairs)
XXXXXXXXXXX

which gives you a videogame-like "onwards is always the right way" effect, although its less interesting for the fortress runspeed

Question for adventurers - are coins worth something in adventure mode?

They have no purpose in fort mode, but if adventurers use them I'll mint some.

Since it looks like TheCheeseMaker never got a chance to investigate Aiwha's fort, anybody mind if I take it on?

PTW

I'll probably upload a save of mine once it falls to the sands of time. Note, it is heavily modded so I will be uploading all of DF for you all to use so as to not cause issues.

I'm currently on 40.19 (not sure about LNP version).
My goal for Anvillocked is to reach 1000 adult dwarves.
Currently 510+ adults 120+ babes/kids.
"IF" I have the *patience* (5~7 fps is getting old) "AND" my computer doesn't melt I'll gladly post a save ;)

I just moved so my computer is still in pieces (freshly cleaned ones :) ) so it'll be a while before real-life lets me play.......then a while longer to get to 1000...a game year takes 8+ hours soo yea,  a while!!!

A Pleasant Visit to the Fortress of Cheese

After days wandering, half-starved, through the freezing wilderness, a young adventurer was delighted to see in the distance the unmistakable outline of some sort of building. She hurried toward it, but as she approached, her keen senses began to tell her that something was very wrong here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Her heart sank as she realized that she was looking at the gutted wreck of a fortress. The bodies of its former inhabitants lay strewn everywhere; she felt her gorge rise. Deciding that she could at least take shelter in the lee of its walls, she found a lone human merchant staring forlornly across the frozen stream at the tumbledown stones.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Then suddenly, out of nowhere, a clown kicked her in the head and she died! The end!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The moral of the story is that Dwarf Fortress, like real life, does not obey the rules of traditional narrative structure.
