Has anyone had a were beast fort against a siege?

I've been wondering what happens when you have a were beast fort, and its a full moon and goblins attack (or something)

Very likely your dwarves change back before they've dealt with the threat and are promptly slaughtered because they're naked.

Imo, the more interesting way to leverage were beasts is using the dwarf form to fight and were form to heal.

Wait is it possible to have all your dwarves as werebeasts without losing?

IIRC the fort crumbles when they all change.  So keep an unlife preserver (vampire) locked up somewhere.

I have never found the were-beast fort to be viable or worth the effort.  I don't know a really good way to spread the infection without incurring too much collateral damage.  I'm not saying it is impossible, I'm just saying it doesn't seem to be worth the effort.

If I end up with were-dwarves, I find they make great cave explorers or shock troops but aren't useful for much else.

There is no good way to reliably expose dwarves to being bitten without also exposing them to horrific death, so if you started with 50 dwarves, a good turnout would be 20-25 were-creatures and 25-30 corpses. The logistics are also quite complicated, and there's a chance of triggering some sort of loyalty cascade.

Not to mention that they have a tendency to start attacking each other, since they don't change completely simultaneously.  I have on several occasions had multiple bite victims sealed up together, and one changes and attacks the other before the transformation comes on... the battle continues once they are both werebeasts.

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

Step 1: Have a marksdwarf attack a werebeast
Step 2: While bolt is in mid-air, have werebeast change back to dwarf
Step 3: !!FUN!!

Very likely your dwarves change back before they've dealt with the threat and are promptly slaughtered because they're naked.
If they're lucky they're of the variety of were-creature which still holds onto its shield and weapon both before and after transformation. If you thought a grotesquely large humanoid elephant was terrifying, imagine how terrifying an army of them would be - all of them legendary axe-elephants.

There's nothing you can do about the helmets and breastplates, however. To my knowledge every single werecreature is bigger than a dwarf. For ~3 days of werecreature mode it's not worth the risk to your legendaries. Especially if the enemy flees, your soldiers may waste precious time chasing down individual soldiers.

I haven't done this before but I think you could link up some bridges with a land mass in between and no escape but the bridges, when the enemies all group onto the land mass have a third bridge which leads to your secluded group of were warriors, then just wait it out until they change and release them into the group of enemies. Just thought this strategy would work best because if your using werebeasts you need to be efficient, can't have them chasing stuff around the map for a week.

It's not something you want to do, it's something you want to have just in case.

Just remembered, wouldn't a Wererat be smaller than a dwarf?
