His name is WHAT?! Favorite names created by DF
« on: August 14, 2007, 03:08:00 pm »

Hey everyone,

So because DF creates entirely random names to fit the entirely random world, you can get some pretty funky names that, when translated, range from peculiar to downright hysterical.

I think my favorite world had a mountain range known as "The Romantic Spires of Death," which was right next to "The Moist Leafy Jungle of Balls."  Oh, and a nearby town was governed by "The Violent Council of Breakfast" and featured two lady peasants whose last names translated to "Pregnantquick" and "Dressopens."  Looks like I found where all the prom queens end up...

Hi!

Actually, I was always put off a bit by the name of the human civilization in my current fortress:

"Apugolepesor Oqui, The Big Slippery Confederacy of Sticks"

However, when I came into contact with the goblins, things fell into place:

"Ozstozu Aslod, The Bold Poison of Confederations"

...

Am I the only one sensing some hostility there? :) :) :) :) :) :)

My favorite so far was a rock crystal toy axe one of my jewelers made in a secretive mood. Eshomerar "Silenceleader". I can't help but take that personally.

1. Build an antiflood generator.
2. Lock your jeweler out and you dwarves in.
3. Flood he outside.
4. Watch how he dies of thirst because the water keeps canceling his drinking jobs.
5. Activate the antiflood generator.

It's only a jeweler.

Can't remember his first name, but the funniest name I've seen was a dwarf whose last name was "Skunkballs". Bet he was a real hit with the ladies....

My favorite is a fortress named "Spearhelms". Who knew dwarves were actually smart at naming stuff? Comparatively speaking, of course.

Did you know Elves name trees? I was going elfburning with my Uberdwarf when he found a tree named "World of Lobsters." what is that, a restaurant in Maine? Anyway, yeah, he burned it down too.

The human town named "Crabgod" is funniest.

The coolest name was when I first tried DF. Then the civilization from wich my group hailed from was called "Nirurid - The Unseen Rock."

Hi!

Actually yesterday, one of my dwarves created an artifact the name I find really fitting:

quote:

Umar Cubor, "The Smoothness of Workers", a cave spider silk tunic

This is a cave  spider  silk tunic.  All  craftsdwarfship is of the  highest
quality. It is decorated with Oak and encircled with bands of horse leather.
It is made from cave spider  silk cloth. This object is adorned with hanging
rings of cave spider silk and  Maple and menaces  with spikes of cave spider
silk and brass.
On the item is  an image  of dwarves  in  cave spider silk. The dwarves  are
laboring.
On the item is an image of dwarves in silver. The dwarves are laboring.

Although I am still wondering about the spikes made of silk, I find this to be a pretty nice artifact.

My best wardog, took down a troglodyte and a giant leopard by himself-he was named Mofol Sainthammer.
