Pooh, a small mistake.
I tried to channel magma across the cave river, but I think I was wrong.

At least you can make a mini-fortress with those surviving miners. Should be interesting.

Don't know.
I think water outside will, inside won't.

Hi!

This reminds me of the one fortress I deliberately flooded in frustration. (Yes, i throw tantrums, too).

The worst thing was that the dwarves who were outside didn't drown. They didn't even register that they were in water until they entered the fortress. However, they could no longer drink from the river, so they all eventually died of thirst... (^_^;;

I filled my fort and most of the outside with permawaves the other day - They're less immediately fatal, but do still stop dwarves from doing anything at all. So eventually everyone would die of thirst or starvation or the like.

Here's the map image from that: http://mkv25.net/dfma/viewmap.php?view_poiid=1032

As for nobles, I prefer to chasm mine.

Is there any way to build Aqueducts across a river? (I guess not)

You should be able to fix that with a controlled temporary magma flood of the world, then turn it off and with the exception of some ashy grounds outside it will be fine.

Except I had permawaves inside the fort too, and most of my floors were engraved. Magma on engraved floors destroys the engravings, and this would send 80% of my military and several other dwarves into tantrums - They almost all became legendary engravers before joining the military.

But, besides that, (or assuming you were talking to the original thread starter):

We would probably wind up with magma permawaves (In fact, one of my previous forts was ended by magma permawaves) inside the fort. Flooding the outside is fairly safe, but flooding the inside seems to be exceedingly dangerous.

Actually you can destroy permawaves by completely flooding the area that has the permawaves.  Because I did that on accident once and found out how they were created.  So it is possible to recover a fort from water permawaves, if you can get your dwarves to act.
