Spells in Adventure mode
« on: July 10, 2015, 04:29:05 am »

I wanna learn and cast spells in Masterwork adventurer mode. Where and what should I be looking for as an adventurer if spellcasting as an adventurer is possible?

Some castes of some races start with spells, and there are a variety of new "secrets" for any class to find.  That would be just like slabs with necromancy works in vanilla.

Currently there isn't much way to learn new spells, since adventurers can't execute reactions.  In principle you could try abandoning a fortress with magic swords or staves in a silver chest and see if your adventurer can loot them (assuming he's a caste that can wield magic weapons effectively)

I'm currently playing the old masterwork and not reborn, so I'm not sure if these "secrets" you mentioned could still be found in the old version. Would you be kind enough to give me more info on adventurer mode in masterwork for both 6.2 and reborn?

Yes, I'm talking about the "old" (I would say "current," since the new Reborn is pretty unfinished work in progress) version.  But I don't know too much more about adventure mode, sorry.  All I know is that you walk around for a couple minutes and try kill alligators until you get one-shot by a random bandit, just like in Vanilla dwarf fortress ;)

In my experience casting a spell as an adventurer is basically about as effective as spitting. Started as a dwarf lich one time; my bone missiles bounced off everything and my skeletons turned on me immediately. It was pretty fun. I reckon' Adventure Mode doesn't run the proper DFHack plugins to make fireballs hot or the like. Would be real cool if it were, but Meph designs Masterwork solely with fort mode in mind.

dfhack is most definitely not needed to make fireballs hot

afaik masterwork shouldn't use that much dfhack at all for interactions

but yeah adventure mode is janky with dfhack
