I'm hoping for the exact opposite. I'd rather everyone have access to all the teams than having to buy each one of them individually (or in small packs or what have you.) I'd prefer seeing people pick teams they want to play, than what they're willing to pay to play.
The thing is that making models, animations and so on for a team is not a cheap thing. As long as the price is right, I think DLC is an ok way to go.

No matter how cheap they make it, it's still going to have a negative effect on your opponent's team variety. If you enjoy playing orcs and dwarves all day, you'll probably be fine with DLC. If you like playing against a variety of teams, then you're out of luck. This is really a situation where DLC makes the end product worse irregardless of whether you buy it all or not.
I'm pretty sure you don't need the DLC in order to play against someone with that team, just to use them. Unless I understood it wrong. So if I liked playing Orcs and Dwarfs all day, I'd still have access to a variety of teams to go against.

They need the DLC to play the team. There's going to be more orc teams because they come with the game than lizardman teams that come with preorder, because more people are going to buy the game than preorder it.

Or in other words, you can buy all the DLC and have access to every team you want, but most of your opponents are going to be playing orcs and dwarves because they didn't buy all the DLC, and playing against the same teams over and over again is less enjoyable than playing against a variety of opponents.

But the vast majority of consumers would not want to be forced to pay $40 three times to even be allowed to play the game like they did in BB1. As much as the limited teams is bad, the old method was far, far worse and frankly a bit predatory.

To be fair, 8 teams with the base game is way, way more than the original BB included. Cyanide was down right scummy with the original release plan. At least this is much closer to what your average game does and your average player expects.

LE is a non-backwards compatible, standalone expansion. You could have completely skipped BB1 and just gotten LE. Even if you didn't, BB2 with all of the DLC teams will probably cost a similar amount.

I do agree that CE was dubious though.

Didn't BB1 launch with 8 teams? Human, Chaos, Dwarf, Orc, Wood Elf, Skaven, Lizardmen, and Goblin?

IIRC Chaos nor Lizardmen were in the original BB release.

Hrm, according to Wikipedia I'm wrong on that.

IIRC Chaos nor Lizardmen were in the original BB release.

Which is weird given that Chaos is one of the major factions.

I think it had to do with the mutations.

I'm probably misremembering. But I do remember playing Orcs my first game, despite Chaos being my favorite fantasy race. The only reason I would have done that is because I couldn't play Chaos.

Saying you could have skipped it is only a useful statement after the fact. Many people bought the game, and then got burned Twice, First with Legendary, Then Chaos.

More importantly. if they pulled that a second time with BB2, nobody would be dumb enough to buy it, because they KNOW they'd be buying a shitty obsolete version that will have support discontinued. They can't pull the same thing twice. It doesn't matter if you think the old way is better, it is literally business suicide to attempt it a second time. Especially as the #1 reason people dislike Cyanide is how they handled the extra races in BB1, to the point where it's the only thing some people even KNOW about Blood Bowl.

Fair enough. But you're still only getting 8 teams here, with the understanding that you're going to have to buy the rest at a later date. Depending upon the price of teams, that could still end up being really expensive.

I don't really want them to attempt it a second time, I'd ideally like them to produce a full fucking game in one go. That said, BB is basically a PvP game, and the other players are content for me when I play. I really dislike the idea of my content being dependent upon how much other people spend on the game. It's not exactly a selling point.

I have a box with the original BB. it does not say it's Legendary nor chaos anywhere so i assume it's the first version.

The game has 8 races: Humans, Orks, Goblins, Lizardmen, Forest Elves, Dorfs, Skaven and Chaos.

I think later revisions added almost twice as many races and a boatload of stadiums... but they should be expansion packs rather than full priced games considering its the same engine, same graphics and exact same rules.

But hey maybe tey learned their lesson and will stick to DLC this time? Especially since they started with steam from the begining this time.

Every time you say this I think, "But don't Orcs, Humans, and Chaos make up 80% of teams anyways?"

For now. You have to wait for the make ups to naturalize.

Orcs, Chaos and Dwarves you mean. Humans are meh tier. And yes, yes they are. Even over at FUMBBL there is a vast overabundance of those teams in particular (Plus Dark Elves and Skaven usually, which are also the BB1 {Dark Elves were a free bonus for BB1 before they scrapped ti all for Legendary Edition instead} and BB2 starter races) in the two public MM leagues.
