(Ok, then I choose Basic Fishing Kit, Compass, Box of Matches, Spray Bottle Insect Repellent, and Bandages.  Seems like the kind of stuff a survivalist would bring to potentially dangerous island out in the middle of nowhere: Fishing Kit for food, Compass for navigation, Matches to create fire to cook food and signal for rescue, Insect Repellent to protect himself from potentially deadly insects like mosquitoes, and Bandages to help with any injuries.)

Richard still lay awake. He had been laying in his bed for hours now, and, although trying hard as he could, still could not go to sleep.

Sighing, he decides to get up and, grabbing his hat, decides to practice his performances for a while. Not that I'll probably be able to actually perform, with this horrible situation... He does this for around half an hour before finally going to bed.

Sato places a few items down on the ground near his room door, angled to lean on the door.  Sato hopes that if the door is somehow opened, the items leaned against it will fall, creating noise and alerting him to danger.  Sato locks his window and then goes to sleep.

((Well there's a fine line.

You barricade yourself in without accounting for someone barricading you in from the outside, that's suicide.
You get barricaded in by someone else without barricading yourself in, that's murder.
