On a planet with a thin or non-existant atmosphere you would be able to get out, but, since this has an earth like one, you cannot get back into orbit with this thing. I should have mentioned that bit. I'll update this later today. I'll assume you want to dissassemble the pod then Aoshima?

Yep, but not into atomic particles. Does my power work backwards too? That would really help.

Space...magic?

What a strange concept.
I know, it's very bizarre idea.

Space...magic?

What a strange concept.

Not as if it's influenced by ER :D ... at least in the sense of powers controlled by ones mind, in a sci-fi setting. Similar to amps in a way. I don't really know what else to call it.

Yep, but not into atomic particles. Does my power work backwards too? That would really help.

Yeah, I suppose so.

Spoiler: Cognitus (click to show/hide)

That is good. I didn't expect anyone to choose three of one skill, but I'll allow it. Here is how it will work. Taken once, a skill will give you a bonus of +1. Taken twice, you simply will never roll a one or two. Taken three times, you will never roll a 1, 2, or 3. Meaning you will never fail the roll unless it is a situation in which the skill is not applicable. The reason I will do it this way is that with straight bonuses of +2, or +3 you'll just constantly overshoot, which I doubt someone who is skilled in something would do as often as someone who is unskilled. I'll be sure to update the first thread with this change.

((Does anyone need the escape pod anymore? Because I have plans for it. A hover trolley, auto-doc, all terrain vehicle and new leg for me.))

Deconstruct the escape pod unless it can take us back into space.

Well, you can build a decent leg using one of the motors from the door, a metal strut from the pods interior, some special circuitry, and a battery from a gauss pistol. Using these, and your mcgyvering powers, you make yourself a robot leg with the capabilities of your flesh and blood leg. Plus a bit more durability due to being made of metal. As a result, the pods door is not operational, you'll have to manually close it if needed. It's quite heavy, so that will be a group effort.

"Let's get this pod camoflauged and scout out the immediate area. For camo, Perhaps bring one of those trees and arrange the upper branches and foliage to overhang, and some bushes to wrap around at eye level. Unless there is a camo net in here. See one? Now, for scouting, whoever has skill in moving carefully in the woods and being unseen should go - at least two. I have such skills ((counterintelligence training)) "and i assume ridge would as well, so perhaps you others could set us up a base here while he and I check around, looking for a source o water, signs of civilization, and other thins of note. What do you guys think?"

Newton unstraps, unstraps, Ed, and begins looking in the pod's equipment containers for a camo net.

((for now, we'll probably leave stuff in the pod. I might attempt to lighten the load or ease of carrying though. See if I can create a long term effect, perhaps one that fades over time and therefore needs refreshed as time goes by. Otherwise, I'll be practicing maintaining a lightening effect over time.))

That was pretty cool.
+1

After Newton unbuckles Ed, he sets off with Ed into the surrounding woods to scout the nearby region. Start by heading toward the sea smell, and work my way around the camp in about a two mile perimeter (should be about an eight to ten mile hike all told - three to five hours). Let the others know my plan and maintain radio silence unless necessary.

You find a crate with some emergency supplies, the section that normally would have emergency food and water is empty. You only have the food and water you brought. You find black netting that you could secure leaves and sticks to. You also find some flares (which even work in a vacuum), a first aid kit, and six lightweight, sharp machetes.

For the journey, we'll have Fridge join you, along with Ed. You all head southeast. The brush is fairly thick, and for a while it seems as if nothing trods within these woods. After about 15 minutes of trekking though, you find a thin dirt trail that is fairly clear of brush, perhaps an animal path. You follow it, the smell of the sea growing stronger, you end up at a sandy beach, the water still. The ocean is blue, just as that of Earth. Following the coast northeast, you see the hill you saw from the landing area, it rises high above the forest's and would probably provide a great view. From here, you see lots of water, and the faint outline of what looks like the nearby coast you had seen on the map earlier.

You all move to the hill, the climb is hard and arduous, as it is think with trees, mud, and thorn bushes. Once you reach the top, the view is excellent. To the east, you see a shallow area of water, that you all could walk, or swim across if needed. Once through it, there is another coastline, which must be the main landmass which you all had seen previously on the map.

For wildlife, it seems that this area has been overtaken by Earth creatures, squirrels, chipmonks, birds, and things such as that. You did catch the site of a deer, but it ran away, unsure of what you all were. It seems that this planets native wildlife was killed on this island before Earth creatures were brought here, evidenced by some strange bones that you found, half buried in the dirt. You all thought you glimpsed something swimming in the ocean, but it quickly disappeared before you could identify it.

"I'm not big on intelligence, Private Nosebleed, but I can definitely try and help," PFC Fridge tells Newton. "I'm more of a shootbang kinda guy, but I can go with ya, if only to bring extra shootbang along in case of trouble. Anyway, first order of business is to find fresh water."

Keep one rifle, one pistol on me, both fully loaded and with a spare clip on hand.

You grab your weapons and ammo, and proceed to explore with Newton, see my reply to Ozark for what you all find.

"Hmm, I'd like to take a moment to find out what kind of activity is happening nearby."

Ask Captain for details about the radio transmitter and receiver, as well as the GPS system.  If it is safe to use these without giving away our position, attempt to use these tools to monitor transmissions in the local area and from the closest settlement.  Also, ask the Captain where his residence and family is located.

Jon Goldbloom Action:
Check our supplies for over-the-counter painkiller medication.  If found, ingest a sample of it to help myself deal with the pain.  If not found, ingest some sleeping pills and take a long nap, so that my body can heal itself.

Phil:

"Let's just call the transmitter and receiver together the relay for now on, to make things easier. It's capable of transmitting both encrypted and un-encrypted messages, problem is that the federation made the thing, so they can unencrypt what we are currently using. At first, they wouldn't know where we were, they would probably assume that we were just some civilians communicating. But, if they became suspicious of us, they could try to triangulate our position, and find where we are.

This GPS does not need a satellite, and is undetectable. My family does not live on this planet, they are several hundred light years away from here... I would normally just stay in the officers quarters of the base in New Luzon while on this planet."

There isn't much communication going on. There are a few stations playing music in a variety of languages, and some other channels that seem to be used by various private companies. You manage to tune into a military channel that mentions an asteroid coming from orbit recently, they think it burned up near your area. Must be that was your pod.

Jon Goldbloom:

20 pills. You ingest a painkiller, and feel nothing at first. The box says it will take 30 minutes to kick in. After they kick in, your pain is lessened slightly, but, still is great. I mean, an over the counter painkiller isn't too great to treat being shot in the stomach.

For now, each of these turns are around an hour in length.

"I could easily modify the relays to be undetectable. After I have dealt with my dying leg."

Continue deconstructing the pod for parts for auto-doc (Fallout thing). It's primary purpose is to deal with surgical operations. Once auto-doc is ready, have it cut my tainted leg off and install robotic one. Pop some painkillers first though. Lots of them, a good while before the operation starts.

While waiting meds to kick in think about physics of warp drive. I'm Doctor Physics Professor, surely I know at least basic principles of phenomena involved. And my university probably had one for training purposes since I ended up sniffing its exhaust fumes.

((Edit: I get the auto-doc done easily in one hour, might install the new leg as well. Someone ensure I remain drugged and strapped in place during the operation.))

Assist the professor.  When surgery takes place, reduce his sense of touch to 10% until the surgery ends, or as long as I can.

"Looks like our landing place is well away from people. We're gonna have a hike ahead of us to get to civilization, when we want to do that. Well, a swim and a hike. Private? Thoughts? Ed, anything?" Newton chuckles when he mentions the swim.

Newton carefully scans the mainland shore and the sea for signs of people - ships/boats on the water, smoke rising from chimneys, the hazy telltale of city pollution. He carefully notes landmarks and the like as well. Unless he finds something noteworthy (beyond "pollution way over there" or "a sail on the horizon"), or unless either companion has reason to do otherwise, he heads back to camp with Fridge and Ed, taking an alternate route, just to cover additional ground.

((Edit: I get the auto-doc done easily in one hour, might install the new leg as well. Someone ensure I remain drugged and strapped in place during the operation.))

You build your autodoc, leaving the pod with just one backup battery. ((Enough to run the radio indefinetely)). The autodoc can only do so much until you all get more power, it also will end up having limited medicine, just to balance things. You take 4 painkillers, leaving the box with 15 pills, and contemplate the design of warp drives.

The basic way in which these drives work is by generating a temporary wormhole that the ship travels through. Once the ship has traveled through, the wormhole collapses, and disappears. Though the exact details are cloudy to you, and are not well understood by humanity as a whole. By using exotic materials that exhibit strange properties when high voltages of electricity, and by using other components to amplify the effect, a warp drive can create a temporary wormhole.

After about 30 minutes, the world becomes a bit hazy, and numb. The painkillers have kicked in, they have only numbed you, as they are a weak medication. But, Phil reduces your sense of touch, which effectively removes any pain. You lay on a makeshift bed, and activate the autodoc. It injects you with a anesthetic, and you fall asleep, with Phil keeping an eye on you.

You awaken on the uncomfortable makeshift bed, with a new robotic leg, your old fleshy one is gone, Phil has a strange expression on his face. Your new leg works well after a bit of practice, it clicks and hisses with each movement.

Assist the professor.  When surgery takes place, reduce his sense of touch to 10% until the surgery ends, or as long as I can.

(I really want to train my ability, so I need any excuse to use it.  :P)

You do so. The surgery proceeds without incident until right after the leg is removed. The autodoc removes the leg, and sets it on the ground. You try not to look at it, so gross, until it starts to move... Black gunk spurts from the top of it, slowly engulfing the leg, and spreading in the veins beneath it's skin. You stand back, confused, the leg surges to life, jumping into an upright position. It moves towards you, making a sound similar to boiling water, and then bolts off into the forest. Fridge, Newton and Ed arrive about 10 minutes later.

Ed barks, content to do as you wish.

Far to the northeast, you see the faint outline of mountains. To the south, and southwest, you see more mountains, they appear much larger and must be closer. You scan the distant landscape, only see untouched wilderness. But, on the opposite shore to the south of you, across the water, you see what looks like a river delta, there appear to be some small structures set up near it. Perhaps a town? This is the river to the direct south of you on the map I gave you all.

You, Fridge, and Ed, all head back to the camp. On the way back... something... runs by you, if that is the right word for it. It looked like a disembodied leg... it was spurting some familiar blank gunk out the top of it, and also sported some fresh blood.

You arrive at camp, finding Phil in a confused state, and The Professor with a new robotic leg.

Add a gauss rifle into MWP so it can fire bullets of higher caliber and use alternative firing methods. Load some ammo into it as well.

Rig up a simple animal control pole for Newton. Hollow tube and some rope should do it.

Maybe bring a container in case we need to restrain it. Professor, rig up an animal control pole for us, would you?

As for what we found, there was no nearby human activity. Across the ocean southward looks like some habitation, near one o the river deltas. We should either cross to the east, and work our way south, or build a small outboard, and ride across directly south, preferably arriving a bit past dusk or just before dawn. those are the best times to not be noticed. Of course, if they aren't alert to potential infiltration, a night landing works just fine."

Get a container, the professor's animal control pole (provided he makes one) and Fridge and Ed, and head out to follow the leg for a while, noting it's behavior carefully.

Using your power on more than one thing felt a bit strange, yet familiar. Like using a skill that you have not used in a long time. You reduce the hearing of both animals down to 10% gradually, you feel resistance to the action, but still can do much more. You simultaneously reduce the animals hearing and increase yours. At first rather clumsily, but, it becomes easy after a few tries. None of these things strained you much, they just required few tries to get right.

You still had a spare rifle, so you modify the platform, and reload it. You make the pole in a few minutes, as it is fairly simple.

These are just various things that you have in the pod.

Supplies:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Main hunks of the landing pod:

-Unused backup parachute - 30 foot diameter.
-Manuevering thrusters. (3 gallons of fuel)
-Main thrusters (no fuel)
-Heat shield plating.
-Loads of wire and metal.
-Various electronics.
-4 Thick, strong windows, very small. Width of 7 inches, squares.
-??

Fridge, Ed, and Newton head after the leg, with Ed sniffing out the trail. The thing must move fast, as it took 30 minutes to find it. You all come upon it eating away at a dead deer. The thing that used to be a leg bares little resemblance to it's previous form. The foot has become a large central body of the creature. The leg has been mostly absorbed into it's body, leaving only a thing pointy stinger. The toes of the foot have extended out to be much longer, forming legs out of it's body. It has a maw with many sharp teeth, and several small pincers.

The creature is entirely black now, and it seems that a hard carapace is beginning to form on it's body.

Ed [3]
Newton [1]
Fridge [3]

You both shoot at it in an attempt to kill it, but it moves to quickly and you miss. Ed charges at it, and tries to stop it, but it bolts off. You all try to chase it, but cannot catch up, it is too fast. It is heading towards the hill that you all climbed upon.
