"So, Captain, how you feeling?  Do you recognize this town or know where we are?  Also, I don't recall if I already asked, but what is your name?"

Talk to Captain.  If he needs boosted senses to identify this town, provide it.  If not, kneel toward the ground, amplify my sense of smell to 1000%, and try to detect any faint scents, such as from any other people who may have walked through these woods.  Based on the strength of the scents, try to estimate when people last traveled through this section of the woods.

(Since we are near a town, I'm trying to use a boosted sense of smell to determine if people are frequently traveling through these woods.  If so, we may need to be cautious about hunting parties or patrols finding us if we stay here too long.)

"No, I don't think you asked me that. My name is Fred... Fred Johnson. I suppose I'm not really a captain anymore though. I've never been to this town. But, the fact that there is a town here tells me that we are fairly close to some of the main cities. The vast majority of this worlds population are near or in a grouping of several cities. With the largest, New Manila at the center. I would suggest that we try to go there at some point."

You enhance your sense of smell, what previously would have been impossible to smell becomes as clear as day. People definetely travel here frequently, whether they are hunting, or just children playing out here. Luckily, it seems that the last scent is around 5 hours old. You doubt many people will be out here until tomorrow, as night will fall soon.

((The captain has rather nice talent for sleeping for not waking up after all that mess. And just how primitive is this village?))

He may have heard the commotion and decided to feign sleep instead... The town is built primarily with wood sawn from the local area, each building made unique due to the handmade nature of their construction. The main building is built out of composite plastic sheets, designed to last basically forever, and be very resistant to the elements. It looks like they use power sparingly, there are solar panels scattered about, and there is a good chance they might have some sort of generator inside. Most of the houses have chimneys, they must burn wood.

Aside from the simple (for the future) manners of it's construction, the town is clean, and the water in the delta looks to be clear of debris. They seem to be a frontier town, living by their means. Conserving resources when possible.

Newton sits in the truck with Fridge and Ed, scritching the latter behind the ears and taking a moment to relax, both physically and mentally.

Podunk, eh? I hope it stays this idyllic in the days to come.

How ya doin' Ed? Holding up okay? Say, what's the datajack in your neck all about anyway? And what's with the all blue eyes, little buddy?

Ed stares off into the distance, remembering something maybe, he snaps out of it at the sound of your voice. He barks a bit, in your head you hear "They created us..." he nips Fred on the arm lightly "...as companions, meant to work with people like you all." he cocks his head to the side "Don't all of... my own, have eyes like this? I'm not sure what the metal thing is, maybe that's how they taught us things?"

"Well, I'll take the delicious delicacies then"
start eating those things

"So huh, any idea why the federation kidnapped us? What do we do now?"

Telgus rubs his neck and stares at the ceiling "I.. have no idea my friends. Is there anything they want from you? Anything you did to them beforehand?"

Eat things too, I guess. Always good to eat things.

"What do you want me to do?"

"Well, you two seem to be able to handle yourselves. Good soldiers are hard to come by these days. It's about the shuttle that you were on. I'd like you both to try and find out where they are going and why.

I'll be honest, this won't be easy, and it won't be safe. The plan is that you infiltrate the main military citadel in New Manila, this planets capital. Once inside, try to figure out what those shuttles are doing. We can supply you with equipment, a few men to aid you, and transport to New Manila. Are you in?"

"Hey guys, I've discovered that people travel through these woods pretty frequently.  I think we can expect some visitors by tomorrow morning.  What do you guys think we should do?  I could sneak through the town and do some reconnaissance.  Maybe there's some kind of vehicle we can steal under the cover of night.  Hm, if walking around  town is too risky, there might be another way to scout out the place..."

Look around for a tall, climbable tree.  Climb to the top of the tree and look toward the town.  Then amplify my sight to 1000% and scan the town for notable features.  Especially keep an eye out for vehicles.

Edit:
If for some reason my tree-recon plan fails, then instead stealthily enter the town and look around for about 20 minutes.  Then return back to the group, making sure I haven't been followed.

"Yeah, you go do recon. We'll cover you in case of trouble."

Keep an eye and an ear out for trouble.

"Why would you want to steal anything? And if anything, fuel is what we need. Rocket fuel. Or perhaps some equipment so I can build a fabricator. Some tubes, an AC unit, tanks, wires, car batteries..."

Newton looks at the truck, then at the town.

We should probably make our way through here late at night, quietly. Maybe pick up some local clothing as we go. Something plain and unremarkable. If we want to gather intel, a couple of us could enter the town from the civilization side in the morning and find a coffee shop or eatery to listen to local gossip. might have to steal some local currency, unless Captain Johnson here has some that won't send up red flags to the Feds.

"Again, why such secrecy and thievery? We could just go in and tell the truth: Our experimental truck ran out of fuel while we were exploring local fauna and make offhand mention about dangerous lifeforms spreading over there."

Newton stares expressionlessly at the Professor for six seconds.

We are wanted men. you ... you know this, right? The government kidnapped us and brought us here, then tried to murder us? We escaped? They want us back in custody or dead?

"Have you considered that civilians do not necessarily share opinions and practices of the government? And that government doesn't want public to know about kidnappings and their immoral practices with our kind?"

Yes. Which is why I suggest we get local gossip. Carefully. we don't know how tightly controlled the population is here, nor how many eyes and ears the government has around. If we walk in boldly and openly, we attract attention, and put ourselves at risk, and perhaps put sympathizers at risk. ... Not that we haven't already put everyone here at risk. Well, Captain Johnson, how do you read the situation?

"Most of that stuff sounds like it would be present in a vehicle.  Eh, I just thought you'd appreciate having another large machine to deconstruct and rebuild as you please."

"That would be much appriciated. I feel useless here in wilds without machines to work with, anyone to debate with or anyone to spar with."

Does our cargo contain any free units of such as tubes, an AC unit, tanks, insulators and wires? And does the nuclear reactor have nice power outlet I can use to power external tools? If not, I probably want to build and install one.

Alright, I'm just waiting on the other two to reply.

"I'll do it. Bet we put ourselves in trouble anyways. What kind of stuff do you have?"

You yourselves, know about your own powers, but not the others. Everyone else doesn't know about them either.

"Why would you want to steal anything? And if anything, fuel is what we need. Rocket fuel. Or perhaps some equipment so I can build a fabricator. Some tubes, an AC unit, tanks, wires, car batteries..."

Yes, It does.

Yes to the outlet. No to the tubes, AC unit, and tanks. You do have insulators and wires though.

((We do.))

Recently, you were exposed to deadly amounts of one of the exotic elements that allow our warp drives to function. Though most who have this occur die a quick death, or go insane, you are different. At first you noticed strange things happening; your coffee suddenly becoming very hot when one of your enemies walked by, or you dropping something, just to have it float back from the ground into your hands.

You are very lucky, among a very small group of people who do not die from exposure, but instead gain these powers. The last thing you remember is having a hood being put over your head, and being injected with something that must have been a sedative.
