Totally fine to have them doing other stuff rather than participating in a fight. Just not sure why the others didn't just do that (references those that didn't go to fight.)

No, because it/he/she doesn't obey everyone all the time. Only their designated commander. But her mindless obedience causes trouble with the aforementioned problem regardless.
