Megaproject idea:
Build a great magmaduct out of all that wood.

Bonus points if it dumps the magma towards an Elven settlement.
More bonus points if you make it out of charcoal instead. Burn the wood first.

I habitually clear cut anything that does not grow brew-able fruit. It is a little time consuming to check every tree, or to use DF hack to designate by species of tree, but it is worth it for cherry booze. It is also enough to piss off the elves, which is nice.

Wish there was a faster way than checking each tree, though.
If you're not above using dfhack, it has a tool that can designate all plants of a certain species for harvest. You can designate all featherwood trees for chopping, for example. Or designate all strawberry bushes for picking.

I am just gonna highlight that bit right there... thanks for the well intended advice though! That is still rather time consuming if you have enough varieties of tree on your map, say from multiple biomes.

As a heads up, some tree-seeds can be cooked after you turn their fruit into booze! Rambutans (sp?) in tropical climates re like this.  I don't care about trees on the other side of the map or fruit, though, so will clear cut large segments to haul back.  The trees  near my entrance I'll selectively cut to leave only the food/bearing ones.  Even if you can't brew desert limes, you can eat them! So every one of those eaten is one more cherry for brewing :)
