Holy crap, reclaimers everywhere!
« on: March 22, 2008, 12:38:00 am »

So I had this fort in a prime area: dolomite on the top layer, multiple coal and lignite seams on surface level, and a nice valley with plenty of trees.  It was all going great, and I generated about $80000 and three artifacts, but then I got sieged and lost something like 20 dwarves.  So I abandoned (wanted to adventure, anyway) and later sent out a reclamation party.

The party size: 78 dwarves.

What's up with THAT?  That's practically more than my peak population.  I'm not complaining, but the siege IS gone, and I abandoned, anyway.  Has anyone else gotten a massive number of reclaimers for something that just wasn't worth that much?

I find that Reclaims always land about 80 Dwarves, so if you plan on ever abandoning a site, always make sure it can withstand an influx of 90 Dwarves.

Excavating every single tile you don't need and then engraving it is a good way to start with 200+ reclaim armies. That's more then the population of an average mountainhome. Or more then your entire civ if you are in a pocket world.

I never really seen a problem with having "too many dwarves" for a fort. If I find myself in short supply of food, and I got 90+ dwarves, I just initiate a massive 20+dwarf-party of food-arrangement, and let anything else wait until I got a nice farmsystem (or whatever food-system) up and running. Brewing is a real life-saver ^^

My point is, if you got the dwarfpower for it, it can always be fixed

The real problem for most forts isn't food supply, it's CPU speeds. Having large dwarf populations can kill your processor.

Well, that's why you tell a few of them to go play in the river.   ;)

Oh, I'm certainly not complaining - at the very least, it gives me a crapload of weapons and armor.  It certainly took me aback, though, when it happened.
