We hold the trial because we are forced to. The murderer won't die if we get it wrong, because then there would be no way to win as the murderer, and thus no reason to kill people. Monobadger aint having none of that!

The murderer doesn't die if everyone gets it wrong, and the murderer gets to go home free; Monobadger and the rules themselves state this. There's your incentive to murder.

As to trial? If you don't, the murderer gets to kill more of you anyway. The trial forces you all to stick in one place, where nobody gets murdered without being in plain sight of everyone. At least with the trial, you have a chance of stopping the murderer without being a potential murderer yourself.

And as everyone says, wouldn't be any fun for Monobadger.

Actually, Monobadger just said we will AAAAALLLL die if we fuck up the accusations. Nothing about the murderer getting to live. I know that's not what the rules say, I'm just saying that's what our characters know, so far.

I'm a bit late to the discussion of the Electronic Student IDs, but I just felt like adding that they were actually the justification for the game having a pause menu.

Oh, and in 2 they had these cute little Tamagotchi-style virtual pets on them.

In both Danganronpa games, there was literally no murder committed that was not because of Monokuma's incentives((Other than a few in DR2 but they had their own reasons)) and not just because 'Oh I wanna go home'. None of the students there were douchey enough to try to murder someone without a pretty good reason to((Other than you-should-know-who-I'm-talking-about of course)).

This guy attempted murder without any kind of prodding from Monobadger.
