Magistrum gestures!
The thread shudders and begins to move!

So, thinking of resurrecting this thread... May not be a great plan.

Had an idea for a game/reality (not sure what you'd call it) show today, where animals that are known for their intelligence like octopuses, apes, crows, elephants, dolphins, etc., compete against each other to complete their copy of the same puzzle (adjusted for ergonomics, of course) first. A food reward would give them incentive to actually try to solve the puzzle. There could be individual and "team" exercises where cooperation is just as important as cleverness. Such a thing would never ever be allowed on TV, but I feel like it could attract at least some kind of audience if it did.

I just noticed that I am the OP of this thread...
I'll just act like I played the long con, and everything was a set up for that joke.

Rules about animal handling and welfare, mostly, but I expect it would be pretty controversial even if the rules were followed faithfully. Plus exotic animals trained for filming are crazy expensive, and I'm not confident something so risky could attract that kind of investment.

I technically had this idea several days ago, but this thread wasn't on the front page several days ago, so...

I'm pretty sure you can use Lynx for that. I'm not 100% sure about posting, but certainly for viewing.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Trying to explain what is communism to a coworker... Yeah, he is a old geezer from the dictatorship, so I am stupid to even expect him to know more than the anticommunist propaganda. (For context, the whole reason the dictatorship was installed was for stopping communism).

That sort of thing is more common than would be ideal. My parents hear the word "socialism" and immediately think, "Stalin's coming to get ya!"

Dumb idea today? Spending $9 to watch Batman v. Superman. Good god, that was awful.
I was given 3 free tickets to watch it--though it's specifically only for monday. Could I ask info about how...um, awful this is? O_o

Forgot was handling boiling hot water while cleaning (oily stuff) and accidentally doused my hand.
Other than that, I recalled how resistant I was to scalding water for more than a few seconds >_>
