This is why I recommend mandatory weaponsmithing for all citizens of my strongholds. If someone does go fey, the chances of them having artifact weapons is much greater. Of course, artifact armor is also very nice. I'm wondering how effective an artifact shield would be.

I'm pretty sure forbidding items has no effect on mood dwarfs. I always make sure I have some bones and shells forbidden and those stocks get used by the moodies no problem.

(I make a bone/shell/skull stockpile near a dedicated craft workshop next to my butchery; the workshop is set to a repeat-make on bone bolts and totems, and I just forbid 5-10 turtle bones and shells each so they don't get used up accidentally.)
