Lack of inspiration
« on: March 21, 2008, 03:18:00 pm »

Recently designated two sections of wall for engraving.  The results:

code:
Engraved on the wall is an image of a crescent moon.

code:
Engraved is a rendition of an image of a cresent moon.

Three theories:

  • A distinct lack of inspiration.
  • A very positive image of one's own talent.
  • Two engravers copying cheating in art class.

Yeah, they'll engrave shapes randomly. There is actually a raw file that has all the shapes the game uses, so you can add new ones. (I wonder if deleting them all would cause errors, or just stop them from engraving shapes altogether.)

I think he's more pointing out that one of them drew a drawing of the drawing that the other guy drew.

My first artifact was an iron floodgate. My second was a leather backpack with an image of said iron floodgate. My third did not have an image of the backpack, sadly - it was the floodgate again. I guess that first legendary guy really made an impression.

I found that alot of the engravings that are made and make no sense in df mode make plenty of sense when you look at them in adventure mode. Like bones and chalices. One of my fortresses is carved with lots and lots of chalices and bones. Turns out that this fortress's symbol is bones, and civ's symbol is chalices.

I have had a number of artifacts with pictures of said artifact on them.

Its like "Hey check out this leather loincloth I made! It has a picture of how awesome it is!"

I got as my first artifact, tower-cap crown. And on that crown was a rendition of a tower-cap crown, done in tower cap.

I assume that on THAT rendition of crown was a rendition of a tower-cap crown done in tower-cap, and so forth, but the game didn't say.
