Smooth the canals before you add in the water to make it look nicer.

Ah, nuts, looks like I need some advice.

A) What contaminates water (other than bodies)?
B) How can I temporarily block canals that have already been filled?

B.) ...floodgates?

Floodgates?  I believe that would only apply to canals before they are filled.  Unless you can sink them in... but I doubt it.  Waiting for winter is no good, either, because the temperature is too high.  Lava is being used elsewhere, as seen in screens above.

Are the floodgates able to drop fro the level above...?  Recall that the canals I mentioned are already full of water.

Excessive use of pumps.

TeDDD: Yep, what they said.

If your problem is that your canals are already filled and you didn't create any way to drain them, you'll probably need to dig out a big reservoir underneath the city, drain 'em, then do whatever you need before refilling them. Preferably with pumps that'll drain the reservoir back up to the canals, because otherwise you could end up having to repeat the process.

I noticed how all your dogs and puppies were kept in one small room....

How did you manage such a heruculan feat? I always end up with more animals than dwarves running all over the place in my fortress.

(hence why I started the Additional Butcher Options Thread on the DF Suggestions area)

kirunobliv: No idea how I managed it.  I think maybe it's because none have been trained yet, so they stay in the meeting area.  I just checked and they're still all there.

Aargh, setback!  I hit an underground lake full of monsters that intersects my canals.  If I fill the canals now, they'll swim up and eat my dwarves!

But it'll make it so much more exciting.

I think it might set back the tourism industry just a bit though.

Maybe not.  It's all about marketing it to the right crowd.

The "Interupted By ______" zone doesn't pass through walls, right?

Edit: Holy Jesus, this Giant Toad has a zone of control that reaches incredibly far.  Like, 20 spaces and 2 Z-levels.  Must be some kind of Hypnotoad.
