Pick your future overlord

Pros of human rule:
  • Humans aren't doing a bad job
  • Hasn't gone wrong yet
  • Humans understand humans
  • Humans can work with other humans

Cons:
  • Humans aren't doing a good job
  • Kinda boring
  • Could probably go wrong
  • Prone to political dickery or general idiocy

Pros of brainjar rule:
  • Brainjar administrator can build up expertise and experience
  • Brainjar understands humans, it is one, can fit into existing governmental systems
  • It does not have a body to satisfy, only exists to administrate
  • Can be shut down, it never has power outside the jar's functions and its speech

Cons of brainjar rule:
  • Potential to create personality cult based around the brainjar
  • Brainjar understands humans, but could become detached from human condition/go insane without anyone noticing
  • Smart brains focused on ruling may not necessarily mean good rule
  • Brainjar could be reserved from human suffering as it does not experience human suffering anymore

AI rule:
Pros:
  • Smarter than you
  • Fixes everything
  • Has the impartiality of robits
  • Can be programmed to pursue outcomes in line with humans

Cons:
  • May self-replicate or design new AIs which eventually supercede humans, or may itself supercede humans
  • May fix everything in ways which humans don't want, like, or be able to survive through
  • May not understand the human condition or even think anything alike biological cognitive functions.
  • May cause the end of the world, as narrated by robot Morgan Freeman.

Technological singularity:
Pros:
  • Praise the omnissiah
  • Humans can improve their own cognitive functions with implants
  • Humans and AI go hand in hand to the future as one
  • Would be a pretty good safeguard against AI extermination attempts against humanity, as both are codependent

Cons:
  • Liable to destruction by purity space slavs and fundamentalist +25% zealots
  • Humankind as we know it will most likely disappear, something about us could be lost
  • Higher cognitive political dickery takes place at the speed of light
  • Superior machine-human hybrids will supercede lesser ones, literal PC master race will begin Gaben's crusade against the lesser machine-human hybrids

Governed by glorious lizard illuminati is my choice. Oh, you can't see that option? Just like you can't see THE TRUTH?

That, or governed by post-apocalyptic mutant kings. You can't go wrong with mutant kings.

I think it's wrong to see government as just a way of making a choice that's as good as possible: For one, 'optimum choice' is ill-defined. Government is finding ways to do stuff such that all or most people involved are content with the result: It's a process, not a result.

This is the difference between liberal democracies and totalitarian ideologies such as (orthodox) Communism, by the way. The 'brain in a jar overlord' concept is inherently totalitarian: Just see what happens when you replace 'brain in a jar' with 'elite cadre of officials specifically educated for the purpose'.

And don't forget that believing in the Great Can of Worms can make all your dreams come true! Our universe is almost certainly a highly accurate simulation running on a vast creature-logic-based biocomputer, and our wriggly benefactors will surely reward those who follow the Vermiform Path of Truth!

How do you define Humanity if not by having Humans innit?

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.

Again with the alpha centauri references...
Can we perhaps be more original?

I am still for the AI scenario. Amusingly, the singularity avenue requires such an AI anyway.  The "The AI might kill us all!" angle is pure histrionics IMO. The same fear mongering exists with GMO foods, and biotech. (Not to mention with things like high energy physics, or did all the fear mongering about microsingularities destroying the planet escape your notice?)

Computer programs doing strange things is not a new phenomena, but on investigation, the anomalous behavior is always logical, and stemming from an error in the programming.

I dont advocate putting RoboCrat2.0 in charge immediately. RoboCrat needs to be worked on iteratively, and developed to manage human populations slowly and have time to have its bugs worked out. It should start doing simple management tasks, such as organizing small human workforces within an organization.
