Well, she was pretty. And Daniel was pretty sure she was new here...nothing for it but to try.

"Hi, I'm Daniel. Do you mind if I sit here?" he asked, gesturing to the seat next to her after bowing slightly. He hoped she spoke Japanese. His English had never been great.

"Not at all." her accent is certainly exotic, but her Japanese is fine.

Sitting down, Daniel looked over at her, one arm draped over the back of the chair.

"So, uh, I take it you're new to Japan? Your Japanese is really good, you know."

[MrVoid]

"I have been studying japanese for the past 6 years. I should hope that it is decent.  Though... my focus has been more on the language than the culture, so I'm just barely getting around."

"Ah...well, you know, if you want, I could, like, show you around. And stuff."

Daniel had never been great talking with girls. Even...well, to be frank, even when he was one.

"Well, I think I'll be seeing this teacher's perform in the narby lounge after school. But I've already got Motou as my plus one. Maybe we'll see each other there."  This guy... He was certainly pretty. She couldn't put a finger on why though.

"Ah-alright. Well, here's hoping, I guess...uh, what was your name, again?"

"Edna" she offers a handshake.

Daniel takes it, smiling brightly.

"Good to meet you, Edna. I hope you have a wonderful time in Japan."

Leaning back in his chair again and waiting for the teacher to start, Daniel decides he may as well keep talking to the pretty girl sitting next to him. He'd never seen a girl with natural red hair before...not really, anyway. The island wasn't that big, after all.

"So, uh, what instrument do you play?"

[MrVoid]

"Contrary to what some might expect, not the bagpipes.  Otherwise piano and most brass instruments."

"Huh...that's pretty impressive, actually...I'm not really that good with most instruments. I tried, but...so, uh, what brings you and your family to Japan?"

Daniel could play the guitar. A little. Sorta. Not really. He had one, at least. Somewhere, he was pretty sure. Uncle Mureda was a pretty cool dude.

"Oh no. I'm just here's for a year as a foreign exchange student."

Daniel tried to keep the look of disappointment off his face. He think he succeeded? Mostly. Probably.

"Oh. Uh...well, uh, where are you from, then? Scotland? You mentioned bagpipes, so, uh..."
