Oh... That's probably why village killing took so long after the mummy fight. Would vampirism reduce the effect? I bet OP would allow that, after I kind of got us cursed... Sorry guys, did not know about curses.

More specifically, it does this:
[CE_SKILL_ROLL_ADJUST:PERC:0:PERC_ON:20:START:0]
Which means that any time you make a skill roll, say, to attack or dodge, there is a 20% chance of getting the worst possible result. Nothing in an unmodded game will change this, so becoming a vampire would only improve things the rest of the time.

Prefer it if you didn't. If you promised not to get the original one killed, you could retire him, take him with you on your adventures, and get him kills that way, but currently we're just trying to accumulate as many kills for one adventurer as we can.
