Are we aerobic eukaryotes?

If we're prokaryotes,
Where prokaryotes is 1 and Eukaryotes is 10, you're a bit primitive and are a 7.
By default, at least.

even if you do consider phagocytosis a thing that any cell should be able to do (which I'm not sure is part of the core package - endocytosis certainly is, though, which is on a much smaller scale).
Wow. I was just meaning to do a Maxis-Spore-like cell, but I'm enjoying googling these biology terms. Yes, phagocytosis is a thing you can do. I'm ignoring the cannibalism part of the above suggestion because it's something you can do anyways.

You are Ork. You have limited perception, but can feel you are in water. You feel a hard substance underneath you, and sense smaller things moving around above you.
You only recently sprung into being. You were tossed asside by some sort of whirlpool, where you came together by chance.

You are capable of absorbing energy from the sun, and can reproduce via spores.

I should start a cell game at some point and have players be designing metabolic pathways, cell mechanisms and stuff like that from the ground up.

As for the eukaryotic description, what do you mean? Do we have all of the standard eukaryotic organelles (including chloroplasts)?

Trap one of the things in a phagosome and then attempt various methods of digestion. Just one, though.

Yes to chloroplasts.
Not all of the organelles, and some of them are less developed. For example, the nucleolus is more like the prokaryotes. The mitochondria exist but lack outer membranes and are less efficient. For example.

So, primitive nucleus (but not quite a nucleoid) and the mitochondria still strongly resemble aerobic bacteria and aren't optimized for exporting their products just yet. Got it.

Neither did I. :P I'm interpreting Harry's suggestions purely through the power of Wikipedia.

Trapping the things is easy.

You start breaking it down, adding to your mass and energy. Your limited senses let you know of a larger thing approaching.

Biology is the science of many fancy words, I'm afraid. It's partly why it fascinates me so.

Yeah, best to move away, that much is clear.

Move away, perpendicular to the larger thing.
That's too logical, we should run in the same direction it's going!

You move straight up. It keeps going in the same direction, and you can sense that it has little hairs for increased motion.

Aha! A dirty ciliate! Best be wary of them, they're a bit predatory.

Keep moving in the same direction - we belong in high places, since there's more light there.

Although... how exactly are we moving? Pseudopodia?
