Never before seen!
« on: August 04, 2007, 04:27:00 am »

I've never had a fortress live long enough to see even a cow have this happen:
http://img400.imageshack.us/img400/6834/oldiepantsry0.png

My world is 21 years old, my fort is 19ish years old, its only a matter of time until the dwarves start dropping... :O

Just though people might want to know the life span of a cow  :) if for nothing else than to add to the collective knowledge of this game and its creatures.

Creatures .txt has the data for age...

A cow has a maxage of 10-20 apparently

Dwarves from 150-170..

Have seen mules drop dead of old age, but that was only when I forgot to slaughter them.

Has anyone here even come close to that?  I've found that my forts tend to slowly die out around 10 to 20 years once new immigrants stop coming in. One or two sieges a year with a dwarf or two dead each siege really starts to add up.  And then you have another couple dwarves die from other things, my forts just seem to dwindle away eventually.

Hi!

Actually, this has made me wondering. People are talking a lot about how children and teaching work, but how many have actually seen it in action. I mean, of course there are the imported children, but with them, you don't really get a chance to be involved with their development as much as with native children. But native children will not mature before the 13th year of a fortress (and that only if your blacksmith came as a married couple and got down to business right away). So, I was wondering how many people have actually seen dwarves that were born in their fortress grow to adults?

I had so many grow to adults in one fortress that I had to sterilize my dwarves.  I had been making all of them my military, but even as champion marksdwarves they would follow thier mother around when not on duty.  It was highly irritating.

In some ways it seems I run fortresses for the longest times.  My current fort is up to 1088 I think and that was the first in a clean world.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.
