Pretty good score for them working together, yeah.

Hmm. Vanguard only has to get 3 light hours closer to read it, so it should take... ha, about the wing of the Corvettes.

Oh! Have the Cossack waiting in hyper. If needed, a few thousand troops could loot the ship, or help fix it. Otherwise, it can wait for a chance to sucker-punch any pursuing enemies or hang around for S&R if there's a battle. Clearly, I need to update the IC post

So for these digital chats, OOC planning is okay?

Yeah, it's a lot easier to just handwave it in.

If you want to post about how your character has their display settings and such, you can.:p

Sorry, my internet has been really buggy lately. As in, 3 minutes on 3 minutes off almost exactly. For hours on end. It's frustrating as all hell.

The Duchess will just chug along with the main group as needed. Maybe start preparing the construction module for a pair of interceptors so I have some defense/something to do when we're in combat situations besides saying 'hide behind the big ships' or 'Run away to the nearest asteroid belt!'

I'm debating the usefulness of the woodpecker in this situation. A bit more ECM is always good, but other than having a bit of extra space and some extra Marines I don't contribute much more than anyone else.

Don't need to. You're an escort fleet. We don't really have much else in the way of real escorts, after all. Sure, we have Fighters and some Corvettes, but, honestly? They're tiny and flimsy.

Bon, since we have the time to check out the fleet in it's entirety, is it possible to observe the enemy fleet by using our entire fleet as nodes in an inferometer. That should give us the resolution we need. As our ships can apparently detect it individually, it's resolution that is the problem, not the brightness of the object.

Before I set about understanding that, I should finish coffee. It sounds plausible, although I'd imagine that it'd take a while to maneuver properly.

But, to be clear, it was detected very, very faintly at the extreme edge of the "sentry" bubble as a possible contact, out of sheer dumb luck and way out of regular detection range. It's not a "We absolutely know something is out there" but a "It's probable that there's something over there, because the variance in the data gathered is well beyond normal parameters and exceeds the margin of error for sensor malfunction / false positive by a significant amount."

The IC reason is basically "Someone kept their small ship pointed in the right direction long enough to almost see something way over there and decided to actually pay attention" and the OOC is "your Random Encounter Table was a high roll."

An interferometer is (oversimply) taking two or more telescopes, set some distance apart, and pointed at the same spot. feed the resultant images to a computer, which processes the images into one, and in effect, you get a much better image.

Let's go ahead and shoot out the vangaurd and corvettes, keeping the corvette fighters on ship, and using some (how many would be necessary for this?) of the Vipers' fighters as relay, and see what's out there. Set a rendevous point, in case it's nothing. Leave the main fleet on course until we know more.

Distance divided by sensor range. Should be about six, possibly more if you guys  want to jump closer than "maximum sensor distance."

That's about what I got for an understanding, so yes that should be fine.

send one fighter in to normal sensor range, coming in from a different direction, say, ninety degrees to the side?

Other then lending my fighters there's not much I can do at this juncture. I'll have the Cossack waiting on standby in case we can board the freighters and take them.

You guys are makin' a lot of assumptions here.

Also gettin' a bit ahead of yourselves.

We don't need to have everyone ready to do something. We aren't in a big fight right now. We're checking out a sensor ghost. You wanna become pirates all of a sudden in case they're just legitimate merchants?
