by my count, we started with 1730 bc in funds. Didn't the admiralty get 5%, so it would be 86.5. I think you based the 84.74 off ship cost rather than starting funds. 1730 + 86.5 = 1816.5 build cost 1694.65 leaves 121.85 (120.09 with currently stated admiralty fund) for logistics. so we have about a three month operating budget currently, with about 18 bc left over.

Triple post. I win the internet.

Qloos suggested SOLplies for Company name. My suggestions were Onslaught or Black Company.

Also, for the Corvettes, I guess Poison Fang and Adder's Bite.

I think it's a great fleet for anything below full scale Star nation battles: Patrols, escort, anti-piracy, police actions, piracy, raids ...

Not suited for any real civilian duties, nor for truly deep spying missions or the like, though a bit of stealthy scouting might be feasable.
Are we a completely mercenary race/group? I ask because the Alliance is kinda low on our list. If it's a money thing, Captain Ozarckus wishes to milk the Alliance as much as possible, if the League doesn't have a better offer. Hey, are all these offers from the Alliance? What about everyone else?

They're a company. They see things in terms of profit, loss, good PR, bad PR.
I am going to assume that the Fleet is going to have a neutral reputation, and that means pretty much everyone who knows of you will make offers. Some are going to be limited because they don't have a special contact by which to offer the Fleet missions and don't particularly trust them enough to offer a whole lot.
I was unclear. Are the Rift conglomerate a completely mercenary race / group? Their race/political relations are all represented by dollar signs

They won't always work for just anyone, as they are still individuals. They have standards, usually.

By the way, Ebbor, I think your second set of tubes should be 72 damage due to Terran bonus.

Let's go with 5% of the highest number, as intended.

But yeah, what Rolepgeek said. It's the general inclinations. You're free to follow your own conscience, although "dislike" and "opposition" typically tends to mean "Enjoy paying several times the going rate, asshole."

Nope, Base damage is 50. +20% is 60.

On a side note, have to name my ship something, I suppose "Vanguard" is as good as anything.

So, possible Fleet names:

SOLplies
Onslaught
Black Company

Any others? xD I'd almost say 'Dendarii Mercenaries" but I don't know how many of you would catch the reference.

That sounds familiar. Ima have to Google it though.

Found it. -facepalm- I don't think we have the particular charismatic mental case admiral necessary for that fleet though.

Ah, sorry then Ebbor. Though bein' lazy wit' yer ship names makes me frown heinously at both you and Kevakcake. :P

I like Glen Cook, but I'd rather we come up with our own name. Let's see...we're mostly Rifter and League, I believe, for the small ships, but Coalition, Kai, and Terran for the little ones. Mostly human, then, with the Kai probably being a recent addition, probably forming around Ebbor's ship originally...an A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. doesn't seem like the best idea...I dunno. SOLplies seems good if we're going more company-esque, while Onslaught or Onslaught Corp. (or, what might be hilarious and catchy is Onslaught, Inc.) works if we're more of a mercenary band. Not sure.

Speaking of which, what are we using as explanation for the Kai Battlecruiser with us? Mostly since 3/4 of our non-Kai factions don't really like bugs...maybe a particularly reasonable Queen or Queens? They aren't part of the dominion anymore, so they're probably rebellious or rebellious-ish. Although they want to go around Enslaving people...I dunno. How much morals are we shootin' for?

Kai fleet forced into "protective custody" and other assistance?

It's not slave labor if it's bugs.

In all honesty, I imagine that the Fleet started with the Standard. From there, I can imagine that a few Rifters who went "Well, the guy running the Standard is a reasonable fellow and his associated queendom was not particularly hostile, so..." and joining up for mutual profit. Missions happen. League wolfpack notices their success and signs on, bringing up the civilian count and fleet strength.

At about the same time, a Kai Queen and its associated Drones that partook in the Technokai Dominion contribution to Grand Fleet decide that their interest begins and ends with their own amusement, splits from the Dominion, and thinks "Okay, so what are ways we can get paid to do what we want? Oh, join a mercenary fleet. Well, there's this one that is made of Useful Not Kai and Not Kai; let's see if they're willing to deal." Enough people remember the Queen to go "Oh, okay, she's part of the almost trustworthy group, I remember not being killed by that ship when it could have, plus profits, less chance of dying, eh why not, it's better than leaving it to go around terrorizing planets and our next encounter being a shooting encounter."

Hearing about a mercenary group that is possibly being manipulated by the League and Kai, the Vanguard decides that this group warrants watching, and joins up. The Humans go "Alliance scum, but at least they can stop the Kai if they do what we expect them to someday"; the Rifters go "Well, we stand to make money and they're mostly good at keeping their word", and so on down the line. After enough missions, they are tolerated on the grounds of "Yeah, they're hideous wasp aliens who have no morals or scruples beyond self interest, but they're OUR terror wasps."

Or "We're mostly opposed to slavery, but we are even more opposed to stupid pointless deaths, so we'll just kinda tolerate the Kai enslaving our enemies."

They're the Jayne, if I want to continue the Firefly references. *shrugs*

Maybe this Kai Queen understands the value of money >.>

I kinda like Onslaught Inc. though it does make us seem a tad aggressive. Might scare away some of our more... passive clients.

I believe I'll be naming the Industrial Ship: the Drunk Duchess.
It earned the name after it's strange habit of the decks swaying heavily when it goes into the upper limits of it's hyper capability. It's definitely not a craft for the weak-stomached.

I would define it as "capable of beating the hell out of a significant single-system stellar navy and survive."

I suppose it could be called a task group from large powers.

I have a feeling that's a reference.

I'm also guessing that for the Vanguard, half the reason they let 'em join is cuz' Markus vouched for them, and he's probably the semi-unofficial head of the group(which I both apologize for and am somewhat pleased with, since it means he's that much more like his namesake), so that probably went a ways towards allowing them to join up for the first bit.

If we're making Firefly references, though...who's the Shepard?

Gonna try and get the map done today, actually; if I'm not, Ross, you should make that GalCivs map and I'll try to make it Monday or Tuesday. Turns out the beach-trip starts tomorrow, not Friday or Saturday like I'd thought it would.

Edit: Oh, Ross? You might want to toy with the size numbers some more...Light Cruisers are smaller than Destroyers, yet faster, tougher, and with more space...seems odd.

Hit points versus hulls.

For about the cost of a Light Cruiser, you can build a Destroyer with better sensors, higher hyper, and longer range that's within shouting distance of a Light Cruiser with less crew. If you are feeling like keeping them base hulls, would you rather buy five Scout Destroyers or four Light Cruisers that are tougher than the five?
