Yeah, I'll agree with that. It's good, though. I'm having a blast.

So far after about...3 hours of play I have:
1) Done a major story mission
2) Done an actual stealth mission (With a new mechanic that reminds me a lot of the modded stealth systems I've seen)
3) Done a new mission that reminds me a lot of the old bomb disposal missions, although the penalty for failure wasn't so nasty
4) Seen a ton of new stuff, including mission types, map types, enemy types, etc.
5) Did a revamped Haven Rescue mission that had proper NPC soldiers running around on my side shooting at stuff.

It's been pretty cool.

I finished my first Lost mission. Shit was pretty intense. I also managed to unlock +1 to all assault rifle damage early on through a secret tech. Then I played a sewer level. Wasn't expecting an underground level at all.

My first secret tech was +1 pistol damage. Then I did a Lost mission. Gunslingers are GODS on those missions, especially with improved pistol damage.

Oh man, I really really want that +1 pistol damage. Just being able to kill the 2hp lost is amazing enough. It must be godmode when you can reliably kill 3 and even 4hp lost.

Yeah, I also did the new haven defense mission and the stealth op. Damn good changes of pace. Having the resistance actually defend themselves feels so much better. Not to mention they're not just randomly scattered all over the map. I've also noticed the AI is more interested in killing the civilians rather than attacking you now. I was also super stoked to see the resistance actually kill some advent.

It's interesting how they make it so you don't really rush straight for railguns now. With the secret techs and breakthroughs and stuff, you kinda have to diverge a bit more. For me, I'm okay with postponing the railguns simply because the +1 to rifles is really huge. It makes rifles do shotgun damage but without the crit chance. I also have another secret tech that makes it so you can swap PCS anytime you want but I don't even have any PCS. That one might have been a mistake, we'll see.

So far I've been using the Reaper as just a very useful scout. It certainly is very useful, but I'm worried since I don't really use her to kill things... she doesn't get any exp.

I'll probably pass on this till it goes on sale. If it was standalone, sure, but I refuse to pay for two full games to get one.

Admittedly I got the base game on sale too, but still. $40 is a lot more than I'll spend on a DLC.

I got some pretty bad luck with my breakthroughs.
I got an extra shotgun attachment slot and 50% off on Power Relays. Not too great.

XCOM 2 is 60% off until I think day after tomorrow.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

I got the base game already (for $25 because I got the other DLCs with it) during the Summer Sale. But WotC is still full-price and $40 is more than I'm willing to pay for a DLC.

Okay, the difficulty is getting quite crazy.

I've unlocked the second Chosen and now I'm stuck in a mission where I need to confiscate as many supply crates as I can before the enemy airlifts them. At the same time I have to fight Advent, Aliens, the Lost, a horde because the Advent purifier exploded, AND the Hunter Chosen at the same time. There's like 16 enemies on my screen right now. I'm pretty sure I'm boned.

I think the only way I'm surviving this is if the Lost and aliens fight each other while I fight the Chosen.

I suspect a restart is in order very soon.

Exploding props or grenades near ADVENT troops can spawn Lost Swarms near those enemies. It's a pretty cool way of occupying both groups at the same time. Not sure how reliable it is though, as I've only used it once in a mission vs the Warlock Chosen.

Are you sure that's how it works? When the purifier exploded, the horde spawned on the other side of the map.

I found out (mostly by accident) that as long as you collect one crate and then evac, you've still technically succeeded the mission. But yeah, that mission is nearly entirely impossible.

I usually play these games on normal difficulty without ironman because I am not that good at them. I decided to run my first game with the dlc on commander with ironman mode on. That did not end well. The chosen always show up at the worst possible time. I think the new bondmate feature has harmed me more than helped. It feels kinda lame that your best soldier can go berserk and murder his own teammates if their buddy dies. I'm having fun with all the new stuff, but I think I'll dial the difficulty back to veteran on my next run :P

Vet level only for my first run makes me saner to unfold the story, and before I play Impossible.

This was the last mission I played last night.  I found it easy as long as I don't care for all the crates.
Sniper with Gunslinger was hand, and I also had the Improved Pistol research after Weapons.  Really ok versus the weaker Lost.

My Reaper also had Remote Detonate so that kinda helped take down clusters of Lost near a car.  That's a +2 radius and double damage.

I also had a pair of Bonded Soldiers: Spec with normal Rifle with Scope + the Reaper.

After the initial attack the daze Mox, I backed to cover, and the Assassin moves to visible half-cover.

Mox's has 2 shots if he does not move.  That assassin gets huge +damage debuff after the 3rd shot.

Grenadier to expose his cover.  2 shots from Mok.  3rd shot from sniper rifle.  Reaper 4th Shot, and then Spec used Teamwork for the 5th shot from Reaper.

I'll probably do this and try to minimize losses. I brought my C team so I don't really stand a chance but at least any losses will be kinda minor.

Maybe this entire mission was designed with tactical withdrawal in mind. If so, that's pretty cool.

This won't be the first time I used tactical withdrawal in this run too. The last mission I had Mox go down to a super stun lancer and I had to evac him.

If its not the chosen, its the save corruption that'll kill your ironman run afair. Did they get that fixed?
