How long does a full LW2 campaign take? How much harder is it than a vanilla game? I'm probably (?) close to finishing a vanilla game and I'll probably try Long War after that.

I actually just noticed the base game is CAD80.

Wtf?

I only paid CAD55 for the preorder and season pass back when it came out.

Was it always that high or is it just Steam jacking up currency conversion rates again?

Its 60 USD right now so that sounds about right. Was that price at release too.

I believe its around a 100 hours of game play or so.

In terms of difficulty I would say its not too much worse, if you know what your doing. Unfortunately it has a bunch of obscure/hidden systems that will bite a beginner in the ass.

Depends on how much you save scum, too. If you're playing for those perfect (or at least not bloody massacre) missions, LW2 can take a good long while.

For example.....the first avenger defense I played in my newest game took me 4 hours to complete. That was with a metric fuck ton of save scumming. But when you've had to fight upwards of 60 enemies....the time per mission starts to add up in the mid game.

Ideally in Longwar 2 you should be running three missions at a time, so about 10 missions per month (+ retaliation/spy missions). That's a lot of missions compared to Vanilla, so be prepared. I'm not sure on the game time but I know it's substantially longer than a normal run. For reference I've been running a Commander difficulty campaign since summer started, and I haven't even done the Blacksite yet. If you want to get through the campaign first try you'll have to do the easiest difficulty. Even Veteran will give you a run for your money.

I do find it funny how much the next expansion drops a LOOOOT of pretenses.

Such as the need for the aliens to be subtle :P

Found out the three Chosen are just counterparts of the three factions...

Well... that is kind of boring to find out.

My life for Earth!

You know, I hear if you upgrade the Templar they can be come pretty solid.  But personally I only get one and have him spend the entire battle standing at the top of a pipe so no one can get on my roof.

What exactly were you expecting when there are three chosen and three new factions in the same expansion?

For the three Chosen to be their own unique entities and not Eratz counterparts? (Dang it where is the correct word!)

I don't get your insinuation.

I have a pretty good idea why this is the case... because one you kill the chosen the weapon they drop... Is the Faction's ultimate weapon.

That and it minimizes the workload to do it this way. Not that they are complete clones (At least I hope the stealth guy doesn't get the psi-tsunami that would be silly).

Ersatz is probably the word you are looking for.

They are unique entities, though. They have unique abilities and mechanics. An ersatz would be if they were ADVENT with the same capabilities as your new unit types.

Fundamentally, though, the game has three combat elements - stealth, shooting, and psi, and so that's what the Chosen cover. What else should they be able to do?

It is very likely that they do, with their own sprinkled on.
