Thin men had legs. Sectoids were scrawny wimps who got their sandcastles kicked down at the beach. I figured that something as comparatively weird as cyberdiscs would get even stranger between games, and it was supposedly a) two different species fused together or something, and b) silicon based?, letting Firaxis go nuts on their alien-ness. Psionic brain things with metallic-looking tentacles inside a collapsible/folding round metal shell seems like a direction they totally could've gone in.

Also, maybe this means psi-borg soldiers of our own, which is the real reason I want to believe it.

I do quite like that psionics existing leads to the obvious conclusion of just making a giant brain and putting it in a armored shell.

I paid £30 for XCOM at launch,  if that helps.
Steam pre order.

That would mean the US preorder version was likely around 40-45$ i guess so it's roughly the same price...

So in the end it all relies on how much content the game has compared to EU and EW.

Also the gatekeeper is obviously a homage to the tentaculat.

- Flies (TBH tentaculats could not fly. They only swam and as a result they never appeared in terror missions)
- Has tentacles
- Makes zombies (thankfully those don't hatch into more of them)

It MIGHT be a result of the aliens meddling with the cyberdiscs as CDs were silicon based lifeforms rather than robots so it might not be a big stretch if the gatekeeper is just a hybrid of silicon and carbon life forms (basically meaning the cyberdisc got a dose of human genes just like the mutons and sectoids) wih squishy carbon brains inside and a tough silicon shell outside.
